Crown Apartments

Crown Apartments is an aparthotel for divers who like a proper base rather than a room with nowhere to put a decent meal. You get a private apartment, a full kitchen, a living area and a balcony looking across Merimbula Lake, with the town centre close by and the coast within easy reach.

The eleven apartments are modern, self-contained and built for a stay that can run at your own pace. Cook when you want, use the washing machine when the kit of ordinary holiday clothes has reached mutiny, and settle in with a view instead of a corridor. The property has a lift to all levels, undercover allocated parking and free WiFi throughout.

English is the language spoken by the hotel team. That matters when you are arranging an arrival, asking about the airport pick-up or trying to establish whether the spa bath is actually in your apartment rather than in some distant brochure galaxy.

You are in Merimbula, on the Sapphire Coast of New South Wales, at 23 Beach Street. The property sits in the middle of town, around 100 metres from shops, clubs and restaurants, while Merimbula Lake and the waterfront are part of the outlook. The town is central without putting you in the middle of a noisy resort strip.

Merimbula Beach is about 1.2 miles away by car, and Short Point Beach is roughly 1.3 miles away. Pambula Beach is around 5 miles away, with Jiguma Beach about 2.5 miles from the property. The surrounding area brings together swimming and surf beaches, National Parks, State Forests and eight golf courses within a short drive.

For a meal, Santa Fe and Dragon Lake are listed just a few steps away, with Merimbula RSL Club around a three-minute walk. Pambula Merimbula Golf Club is a five-minute drive away, while Magic Mountain Rides Park is 5 km from the apartments. Merimbula Airport is about 1.5 miles away by road.

The choice is straightforward: a one-bedroom apartment for a couple, or a two-bedroom apartment when you want room for four and a little more breathing space. The larger layout is the sensible call for a family or a small group who would rather not queue for the bathroom or negotiate every square metre of living space.

Every apartment has a balcony with views over Merimbula Lake, a full kitchen and a living area with a sofa, dining space and outdoor furniture. The kitchen includes an oven, stovetop, microwave, refrigerator, dishwasher, toaster, kettle and cookware. That gives you the useful sort of independence: breakfast before an early start, cold water waiting when you come back tired, and no need to dress up simply because hunger has arrived ahead of dinner.

Air conditioning and heating cover the temperature swings, while a fan, electric blankets and carpeted floors add practical comfort. Apartments have a private entrance, a washing machine, drying rack and ironing facilities. Bathrooms include a walk-in shower, and ten of the apartments also have a spa bath; one apartment is wheelchair accessible. A balcony, a lake view and a television with satellite and cable channels finish the evening without pretending that divers need a full entertainment programme.

There is an onsite restaurant within the apartment complex, giving you an option close to home when the day has taken more out of you than planned. When cooking feels like unnecessary decompression, Santa Fe and Dragon Lake are only a few steps away, and Merimbula RSL Club is roughly three minutes on foot. There are no hotel bars listed, so the balcony and the lake view may have to do the work of the sundowner. Fortunately, neither requires a booking.

The solar-heated outdoor pool is the main place to reset without leaving the property. It sits outside some of the living areas, with sun loungers or beach chairs and pool or beach towels available. For a quiet hour between outings, that is enough equipment and no timetable to obey.

Golf gives you another option away from the water, with Pambula Merimbula Golf Club a five-minute drive from Crown Apartments. The wider Merimbula area also has eight golf courses within short driving distance, while Ford Park Playground is about 1 mile away for families travelling with children.

The apartments themselves do much of the resting work. A balcony over the lake, an outdoor dining area, a sun terrace and BBQ facilities let you stay outside without turning relaxation into an organised activity. After a day underwater, that can be the correct level of ambition: swim, eat, watch the light change, and leave the heroic plans for tomorrow.

The hotel can arrange pick-up from Merimbula Airport or the bus terminal, with the airport around 1.5 miles away by road. Arrange the service with the property before arrival. Private check-in and check-out, express check-in and check-out, and luggage storage are available, but you need to tell the property your expected arrival time.

Check-in runs from 14:00 to 18:00, and check-out is by 10:00. Free private parking is available onsite without reservation, including an electric vehicle charging station. WiFi is free in the apartments and can be used on up to five separate devices per apartment.
