Business travellers fit the setting, but so do couples who would rather walk to dinner than organise another transfer.

That makes the property clearly geared towards an international crowd, even though the languages spoken by the hotel team are not listed. The International Convention Centre and Barangaroo are under 15 minutes away on foot, while the Opera House, The Rocks and the Royal Botanic Gardens are all within about 25 minutes' walking distance.

You can also fill a non-diving day without going far. Sydney Aquarium, WILD LIFE Sydney Zoo and Madame Tussauds Sydney are roughly five minutes away on foot; Cockle Bay and the Australian National Maritime Museum take around 10 to 12 minutes. Hyde Park, the Chinese Friendship Garden and the Royal Botanic Gardens extend the walking circuit when your legs are still willing.

In practical terms, that gives you a choice between a view, a cocktail or a quick beer. No need to pretend those are the same thing.

A coffee house is also on site, and the food-and-drink facilities include a minibar and tea- and coffee-making equipment in the rooms. Special-diet menus are available on request, while children's meals and a child-friendly buffet are also part of the food service.

The 24-hour fitness centre is the useful option for keeping the legs moving without turning the day into a sightseeing march.
