You arrive on Yanuca Island for a resort stay with plenty to do on site and enough room to spread out. Shangri-La Yanuca Island, Fiji sits on a private island shaped around a natural lagoon, coral reef and sandy beaches, with rooms, suites and bures designed around ocean views.

This is a practical choice when your trip includes more than diving. You can have the beach, restaurants, spa, golf and family facilities in one place, rather than building every part of the holiday around trips off the property. Couples have adults-only accommodation in the Reef Wing, while families have family rooms, a kids’ club and children’s play areas.

The hotel is in Voua, Fiji, on the private Yanuca Island, directly on the seafront. The beach is sandy and accessible from the property, with the lagoon setting doing much of the geographical heavy lifting. You are not staying in a town-centre hotel, so the resort itself is where you will find most of your meals, drinks and activities.

There are a few useful points beyond the island. Geckos Restaurant is about 2,200 feet away, while Sigatoka Sand Dunes National Park is 4.5 miles away and Lawaqa Park is about 7 miles away. Nadi International Airport is roughly 33 miles away, around 49 minutes by car.

Ocean views and balconies are the common thread across the accommodation, so you can step outside rather than admire the Pacific through glass. Every room has air conditioning, a private bathroom, a television, free WiFi, bathrobes, slippers and toiletries including a toothbrush and toothpaste. Travelling with children or a third guest? The Yanuca Lagoon Grand Deluxe King Room is the option built around that arrangement, with sofa beds alongside the super-king bed. Twin rooms give two separate single beds instead. For a longer stay, the suites offer more room to sit down properly, which is useful when the day’s wet kit and holiday luggage have begun occupying every available surface.

You have six restaurants on site, with five named venues covering several moods rather than one dining room doing all the work. Golden Cowrie Coastal Italian Restaurant handles Italian cooking, while Takali Asian Kitchen takes the menu in an Asian direction. Lagoon Terrace Restaurant, Beach Bar & Grill and Black Marlin Rum and Steak complete the named restaurant line-up.

There are two named bars: Bilo Bar and Black Marlin Tropical Bar. A snack bar is available when a full meal is more effort than you can manage, and room service lets you eat without leaving the balcony. Breakfast is served as a buffet, with breakfast in the room also available. Special-diet menus can be requested, and children’s meals and a child-friendly buffet are part of the food offer.

The beach and swimming pool give you the obvious places to slow down, with sun loungers, beach chairs, umbrellas and pool or beach towels available. If your muscles have had enough of carrying you around, Chi, The Spa offers treatments, massage, beauty services, a relaxation area, spa facilities and a sauna. The fitness centre is there for anyone who still considers exercise a sensible post-dive decision.

On land, you can use the tennis court, cycle around the property, play table tennis or take on the games room. There is also a 9-hole golf course with direct access from the resort, alongside mini golf, billiards and evening entertainment. Water-based options include canoeing, snorkelling and other on-site water sports. Some activities carry an additional charge, so the resort is not pretending that every diversion is included in the room rate.

Families have a kids’ club, a children’s playground, indoor and outdoor play equipment and babysitting services. A water park adds another outlet for younger guests’ energy. For adults travelling as a couple, the Reef Wing, spa, beach and restaurant choice make it possible to have a quieter day without requiring a separate excursion.
