Shark Divers

Gansbaai is widely recognised as the global capital for Great White shark encounters, and Shark Divers has been operating in this premier location since 2012. The centre is specifically geared towards cage diving, providing a controlled way to observe one of the ocean's most iconic predators in its natural habitat.

Daily excursions depart from the Kleinbaai harbour, positioning you just 20 minutes away from the primary diving sites. These trips are designed to be accessible, meaning you do not need a prior diving qualification to participate in the cage diving experience.

The team at Shark Divers is highly qualified, focusing on the specific safety requirements and expertise needed for shark cage diving. They manage daily excursions with a focus on professional guidance for both local and international visitors.

Instruction and direction are provided in English, with German also spoken by the team. This ensures clear communication regarding safety protocols and marine life behaviour before you head out to the sites.

Full kit hire is available on-site, including wetsuits and masks, to ensure you have everything required for your excursion. For those looking to capture their encounters, GoPro cameras are available for hire.

A notable feature of their setup is the option to use a hookah air supply system while inside the cage, allowing for an extended period of observation under the water.

The primary draw is the presence of the Great white shark (Carcharodon carcharias) and the Copper shark (Carcharhinus brachyurus). You will also frequently encounter Cape fur seals, dolphins (Delphinidae), and various seabirds during your time on the water.

Between June and November, the area becomes a significant destination for larger marine mammals. During this seasonal window, you may observe southern right whales, Humpback whales (Megaptera novaeangliae), and other whales passing through the region.

Beyond the large pelagics, the local ecosystem supports a variety of other species including penguins, ensuring a diverse marine life experience regardless of the shark activity.

The diving sites are highly accessible, situated only 20 minutes by boat from the harbour. The area is known for its seasonal shifts, particularly regarding the presence of migratory whales from June to November.
