The reefs of Tayrona are home to a wide array of colourful fish and structural life. You will find various species of Angelfish (Pomacanthidae) and Sergeant majors navigating through the seascape. Large fish, including Jacks (Carangidae) and Barracuda (Sphyraena), are often present in the water column.

For those interested in the smaller details of the reef, the area offers plenty of macro life. You can observe Octopus (Octopoda), Seahorse (Hippocampus), and various species of Pufferfish (Arothron hispidus). Lobster (Homaridae) and Moray eel (Muraenidae) are also frequently spotted amongst the crevices.

The structural foundation of the reef is built upon Soft coral (Alcyonacea), Sponges (Porifera), and various other corals. These provide the essential habitat for Grunt (Haemulidae), Trumpetfish (Aulostomidae), and Lionfish (Pterois volitans).
