Casa De Buceo y Aventura

Located in El Rodadero, Santa Marta, Casa De Buceo y Aventura has been a fixture of the local diving community since 1991. This family-operated centre provides a direct gateway to the diverse marine environments of the Colombian Caribbean, ranging from calm reef flats to more challenging offshore sites.

The centre is run by PADI instructors María E. Peláez and David Gutiérrez Pelaéz, ensuring a personal approach to every dive and course. Their operations are built around a commitment to sustainable tourism and the protection of the local marine ecosystems through active conservation efforts.

The team is led by experienced PADI instructors who bring decades of combined teaching experience to the water. This long-standing expertise allows for a highly personalised teaching style, whether you are completing your first certification or working towards your Divemaster credentials.

Beyond instruction, the centre is deeply involved in environmental stewardship. They promote sustainable practices within the local community and organise underwater clean-ups to help preserve the reefs and marine life that make this region unique.

As a PADI affiliated centre, they offer a complete progression of training. You can begin with the Open Water Diver and Advanced Open Water Diver courses, or progress through to Rescue Diver and Divemaster levels.

For divers looking to specialise, the centre provides PADI specialty courses including Nitrox, Deep Diver, Wreck Diver, and Peak Performance Buoyancy. They also offer Adaptive Diving and Beginner Free Diver programmes, ensuring instruction is available for a wide range of diver profiles.

The Asturias is a dedicated lancha designed specifically for diving operations. It has a capacity for 13 divers and is powered by a 200cv engine with an auxiliary motor for added reliability.

On board, you will find essential safety and communication equipment, a first aid kit, and an oxygen unit. The boat also provides refreshments for divers during the trip, making it well-equipped for both day trips and night dives.

The centre provides a full range of rental kit for those not travelling with their own equipment. This includes everything required for a complete diving setup.

The reefs are home to a variety of larger species, including Great barracuda (Sphyraena barracuda), Jack (Carangidae), and various rays (Batoidea). You may also encounter turtles and large fish patrolling the area.

In the smaller crevices and reef structures, look for Octopus (Octopus vulgaris), Moray eel (Muraenidae), and Seahorse (Hippocampus kuda). The presence of Pufferfish (Arothron hispidus) and Trumpetfish (Aulostomidae) adds to the diversity of the mid-water fauna.

The seascape is defined by vibrant life, including various Angelfish (Pomacanthidae), Sergeant majors, and Grunts. Soft coral (Alcyonacea) and various Sponges (Porifera) provide the essential structure for the local ecosystem.

The region is influenced by the nearby Sierra Nevada, which can create stronger currents that encourage the growth of corals and diverse marine life.

While many sites like Playa Blanca offer calm, pool-like conditions for training, other areas such as El Morro de Santa Marta and Isla Aguja are known for stronger currents, requiring more confident buoyancy and trim.
