La Mer diving school

Located in Taganga, La Mer is a family-run operation managed by Yessica and Sébastien "El Frances". They have been working within the diving and tourism sector in Santa Marta for approximately 9 years.

The centre operates within the Tayrona National Park, providing access to the diverse ecosystems of the region. They focus on a professional approach that balances technical safety with a respect for the local environment.

The team consists of local PADI professionals with international references. They prioritise small group sizes to ensure that instruction remains personalised and highly attentive to each diver's needs.

Communication is straightforward as the staff is multilingual, offering instruction in English, Spanish, and French. This makes the centre an accessible choice for international divers looking for technical or recreational training.

The school offers a full range of PADI certifications, from the initial Open Water Diver course through to Advanced Open Water Diver and Rescue Diver. For those looking to move into professional ranks, they provide Divemaster training.

Additional training options include EFR (Emergency First Response) and Scuba Review for those needing to refresh their skills. They also facilitate introductory dives for those new to the water.

The centre provides boat transport for your dives. Trips include healthy snacks such as fresh fruit, natural juice, and other light refreshments to keep you replenished between dives.

Full kit hire is available for those not bringing their own equipment, including masks, snorkels, fins, regulators, BCDs, cylinders, and dive computers.

For those staying on-site for an Open Water Diver course, the centre also provides accommodation for two nights.

The reefs of Tayrona host a vast array of life, including over 400 species of fish and more than 100 species of coral. You will encounter a rich landscape of sponges and various types of algae.

Large residents include Jack (Carangidae), Barracuda (Sphyraena), and various species of Grunt (Haemulidae) and Sergeant majors. You may also spot Lionfish (Pterois volitans), Pufferfish (Arothron hispidus), and Trumpetfish (Aulostomidae) patrolling the reef.

Macro life and smaller inhabitants add complexity to the site, with sightings of Octopus (Octopoda), Seahorse (Hippocampus), and various species of Ray (Batoidea). Lobster (Homaridae), Moray eel (Muraenidae), and Garden eel (Gorgasia) are also part of the local ecosystem.

The diving takes place within the protected areas of the Tayrona National Park, covering reef environments ranging from the reef flat to deeper sections.
