Santa Marta Dive Center

Santa Marta Dive Center is situated in the heart of the historic centre of Santa Marta, Colombia. The reefs are characterised by a healthy ecosystem of corals and sponges (Porifera). You will find a variety of reef fish including Angelfish (Pomacanthidae), sergeant majors, and various species of grunts. Large fish such as Jack (Carangidae) and Great barracuda (Sphyraena barracuda) are also part of the regular marine life.

In the open water and around the reef structures, you can encounter various pelagics and larger residents. This includes Lionfish (Pterois volitans), Trumpetfish (Aulostomidae), and Pufferfish (Arothron hispidus). You may also spot rays (Batoidea) and Moray eel (Muraenidae) patrolling the ledges.

Macro life enthusiasts can look for Seahorse (Hippocampus kuda) amongst the vegetation, as well as Octopus (Octopus vulgaris). The area is also home to Lobster (Homaridae) hiding in the crevices of the reef.

One of the more special sightings in this region is the young hawksbill turtle (tortuga boba joven), which adds to the biodiversity of the local waters.
