Scuba Carolina

Scuba Carolina operates out of Santa Marta, serving as a primary gateway to the marine wonders of the Colombian Caribbean. Most of the diving excursions depart for the protected waters of Tayrona National Park, offering a diverse range of underwater environments for all experience levels.

Since its establishment in 2021, the centre has built a reputation for safety and individualised service. The focus is on creating a comfortable atmosphere where divers can progress through their training or explore local reefs without the pressure of large, crowded groups.

The team is composed of dedicated professionals, including Carolina, an instructor who has been diving since 2015, and Jeff, an experienced assistant with a long history of diving. They are supported by Yeimis Cantillo and Isabel Barrios, who manage course organisation, and Yuli Serrano, a marine biologist who leads specialised snorkeling tours.

Instruction is provided in both Spanish and English, making it accessible for international divers. The centre maintains a philosophy of direct attention, ensuring that the rhythm of each dive or course is adapted to the specific needs of the individual or the small group.

Scuba Carolina offers a comprehensive range of PADI courses, starting from the fundamental Open Water Diver and Advanced Open Water Diver certifications. For those looking to progress further, they provide Rescue Diver and Divemaster training.

The curriculum includes a wide variety of specialty courses to refine your skills, such as PADI Deep Diver, Night Diver, and Wreck Diver. You can also focus on technical skills with PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy, Underwater Navigation, and Search & Recovery, or explore more niche interests like PADI Underwater Photography and Fish Identification.

The centre is a full-service PADI operation, providing the necessary support for both training and recreational diving. Enriched Air Nitrox is available for those looking to extend their no-decompression limits during their dives.

For those travelling and looking to complete their training remotely, the centre offers e-learning options. On-site, the team ensures all necessary kit is prepared for your scheduled excursions, including snacks and hydration to keep you comfortable during the day.

The reefs are home to a variety of colourful fish, including various species of Angelfish (Pomacanthidae), sergeant majors, and grunts. You will often see larger pelagic-style fish such as Great barracuda (Sphyraena barracuda) and Jack (Carangidae) cruising through the water.

The seabed is a complex habitat shaped by Soft coral (Alcyonacea), various Sponges (Porifera), and diverse coral formations. These structures provide essential shelter for Moray eel (Muraenidae), Octopus (Octopus vulgaris), and different types of Lobster (Homaridae).

For those interested in macro life, the area offers plenty to observe, including Seahorse (Hippocampus kuda) and Pufferfish (Arothron hispidus). Keep a close eye on the sandy patches and reef crevices for smaller organisms like Garden eel (Gorgasia) and various rays (Batoidea).

Diving in the area is heavily influenced by local weather patterns. The sites around Isla Aguja are specifically recommended only when sea conditions are extremely calm to ensure safe and comfortable diving.
