Taganga Dive Station

Taganga Dive Station is a long-established PADI 5 Star Resort situated in the coastal village of Taganga, near Santa Marta, Colombia. With over 20 years of experience operating in the Caribbean, the centre has become a cornerstone for diving in the region, particularly for those looking to explore the protected waters of Parque Tayrona.

Instruction is delivered in English, Spanish, and Hebrew, making the centre accessible to a wide range of international divers. The staff focuses on maintaining high safety standards and professional certification integrity, particularly for those undertaking advanced or professional-level training.

The training catalogue is extensive, covering the entire PADI progression. Beginners can start with a Mini Curso de Buceo or the Open Water Diver course, while those looking to expand their skills can progress through the Advanced Open Water Diver and Rescue Diver programmes.

The reefs of Parque Tayrona are characterised by a high level of biodiversity. You will find a variety of colourful fish, including angelfish (Pomacanthidae), sergeant majors, and jacks (Carangidae). Large fish, such as great barracuda (Sphyraena barracuda), are also part of the local ecosystem.

The reef structure itself is built around lush coral colonies and soft coral (Alcyonacea), providing a complex habitat for a wide range of species. You can observe moray eels (Muraenidae), rays (Batoidea), and various species of turtles moving through the water.

For those interested in macro life, the area supports seahorses (Hippocampus kuda) and octopus (Octopus vulgaris). You may also encounter pufferfish (Arothron hispidus), lionfish (Pterois volitans), and various sponges (Porifera) nestled within the reef architecture.

The waters of the Tayrona region are generally calm, which is ideal for reef exploration. However, certain areas are known to have moderate currents that require a higher level of buoyancy control and experience.

The best time to visit the area is between December and April, when conditions are most favourable for diving.
