Beyond Breath Freediving

Situated on the Big Island of Hawai'i in Kailua-Kona, Beyond Breath Freediving offers a specialised approach to breath-hold diving. The centre is built around the principles of ocean empowerment, teaching divers how to move through the water with efficiency and respect for the marine environment.

Rather than focusing on traditional scuba, this centre is dedicated to the discipline of freediving and the practical skills required for spearfishing and aquatic survival. Whether you are looking to take your first breath-hold dive or seeking advanced coaching to refine your technique, the programmes are designed to build a deep, safe connection with the Pacific.

The centre is led by Julia Donath, a certified F.I.I. (Freediving Instructors International) instructor. Her background as a former maritime lifeguard brings a heavy emphasis on safety and ocean literacy to every session, ensuring that students understand the physiological and environmental realities of breath-hold diving.

Instruction is provided in English, and the centre caters to a wide range of ages. This includes specialised Junior Freediver programmes for younger divers, as well as private coaching sessions for those seeking a more tailored progression through the F.I.I. curriculum.

The curriculum covers a comprehensive range of freediving disciplines. Beginners can start with the Level 1 Freediver course, while younger divers can follow the Junior Freediver track. For those looking to refine their skills or prepare for specific environments, the centre offers various coaching programmes.

Beyond standard breath-hold training, the centre provides Waterman Survival and Waterman Survival Extended courses. These programmes are designed to build essential aquatic survival skills, making them highly relevant for anyone spending significant time in the ocean.
