Island Dive Operations

Located in the scenic northern part of Dominica, Island Dive Operations provides access to the unique volcanic topography that defines this Caribbean island. The centre operates out of Portsmouth, serving as a base for both local exploration and guided adventures.

Whether you are looking for a relaxed snorkeling outing or a technical exploration of the island's underwater features, the operation is built around a commitment to safety and education. The focus remains on providing a professional environment for every diver, regardless of their experience level.

The centre is led by Fabian, an instructor who has been diving with SCBA since 1999 and has been a certified PADI instructor since 2007. This level of experience ensures that the technical aspects of the dives are handled with precision.

The operation is designed to accommodate various skill levels, maintaining a focus on small group sizes to ensure every diver receives adequate attention. All instruction and communication are conducted in English.

The centre offers a full range of PADI certifications. Beginners can start with the Discover Scuba Diving programme to get a feel for the water, while others can work through the standard PADI certification courses.

The centre provides a range of rental equipment for those not travelling with their own kit. This includes fins, masks, wetsuits, and regulators to ensure you are prepared for the local conditions.

The reefs in this area are in excellent health, featuring a diverse array of hard corals and soft corals that provide a complex habitat for reef fish. You will find various species including angelfish (Pomacanthidae), snappers (Lutjanidae), and blue chromis.

Macro life and smaller inhabitants are abundant among the structures, including spotted scorpionfish, spotted snake eel, and various species of crabs. You may also encounter seahorses (Hippocampus) and decorator crabs tucked into the reef.

Larger pelagics and reef residents frequent the area, including Blue tang (Acanthurus coeruleus), various rays (Batoidea), and spotted eagle ray (Aetobatus narinari). Moray eels (Muraenidae) are also common residents of the crevices and tunnels.

The local dive sites, particularly the caves, are subject to the specific underwater topography of the island. The presence of volcanic fumaroles at Toucari Bay Cave adds a unique element to the dive environment.
