The depth range, from 6 to 15 metres, keeps you in the vibrant zone where light penetration is still strong, illuminating the reef and its inhabitants.

The geology of Ledges/Dolphin Rocks provides numerous nooks and crannies where smaller marine life finds refuge, but it's the open water around these structures that truly comes alive. The site acts as a natural aggregation point, particularly during the summer months when conditions are calm. This period sees an influx of baitfish, forming dense, shimmering schools around the washing rocks.

It's this abundance of baitfish that transforms Ledges/Dolphin Rocks into a hunting ground for larger predators. You'll observe streamlined barracudas (Sphyraena barracuda) patrolling the periphery of the bait balls, their movements precise and calculated. Mackerel and bonitos (Sarda sarda) dart through the schools with impressive speed, creating fleeting but intense moments of predation. Keeping an eye on the blue will often reward you with sightings of these powerful pelagics in action.

The presence of large tarpon (Megalops atlanticus) is another highlight, especially during the summer. These silver kings often linger near the ledges, taking advantage of the concentrated food source.
