Cabrits Dive Centre

Cabrits Dive Centre is situated in the north-west of Dominica, positioned within the sheltered waters of Prince Rupert Bay near the Cabrits National Park. The location provides easy, short boat trips to a variety of diverse marine environments, ranging from shallow reef flats to dramatic volcanic sites.

The area is defined by its healthy, well-preserved reefs and a unique underwater topography shaped by the island's volcanic origins. Whether you are looking for easy, shallow dives or more advanced explorations of walls and caves, the proximity to the reef systems makes it an ideal base for Caribbean diving.

The centre is operated by Virginie and Rémi Granger, two experienced PADI instructors. They provide instruction in both English and French, catering to a diverse range of divers.

As a PADI 5 Star centre, the facility maintains high standards for training and safety. The team offers everything from introductory Discover Scuba Diving sessions to professional-level Divemaster training, ensuring a structured approach to skill development.

A comprehensive catalogue of PADI courses is available, covering the entire spectrum of diver progression. This includes Open Water Diver, Advanced Open Water Diver, and Rescue Diver, as well as professional Divemaster training.

Specialty training is extensive, with options for Deep Diver, Wreck Diver, Drift Diver, and Peak Performance Buoyancy. For those interested in conservation, the centre offers Project AWARE® Specialist, Dive Against Debris, and Aware – Coral Reef conservation courses. Other technical and skill-based specialties include Nitrox, Multilevel, Night Dive, Search and Recovery, and Digital Underwater Photography.

The centre operates a BWA 840 boat, which is used to access the various dive sites around Prince Rupert Bay. The vessel allows for efficient transit to the nearby reefs and volcanic sites, including night dives and sunset trips.

The centre provides a full range of rental kit, including regulators, BCDs, fins, masks, snorkels, wetsuits, torches, and dive computers. All rental equipment is sourced from Aqualung, ensuring reliable, high-quality gear for your dives.

Nitrox is available for divers looking to extend their bottom time. The facility is well-equipped to handle both recreational and advanced diving requirements, providing the necessary support for various specialty courses.

The reefs are incredibly healthy, characterised by a massive variety of sponges and corals. You will encounter a dense array of reef life, including various species of angelfish, snappers (Lutjanus), and many types of hard and soft corals.

Macro enthusiasts will find plenty to observe, from tiny nudibranchs and shrimp to seahorses (Hippocampus kuda). The sandy areas and reef edges are also home to sand eels, decorator crabs, and various species of crabs (Brachyura).

For those looking for larger pelagics and interesting residents, the area hosts spotted eagle rays, electric rays (Torpedinidae), and Southern stingrays (Hypanus americanus). You may also encounter Great barracuda (Sphyraena barracuda), batfish (Platax), and flying gurnards near the reef structures.

The diving is primarily conducted via boat from Portsmouth, with many sites being a short distance away. The topography varies from shallow plateaus and reef flats to steep walls and underwater caves.

Some sites, such as Shark’s Mouth, may experience a light current, while others like Point Break involve navigating a passage where the Atlantic meets the Caribbean Sea.
