Extra Divers Speyside is situated on the north-east coast of Tobago in the quiet village of Speyside. Its unique position on the Atlantic side of the island provides access to a level of marine biodiversity rarely seen elsewhere in the Caribbean, driven by the nutrient-rich Atlantic currents.

The centre is managed with a personal, professional approach and operates as a branch of Extra Divers Worldwide. This affiliation brings a consistent standard of service to the small, local operation in Speyside.

Training is conducted following SSI standards and is available in both English and German. The team provides a professional environment for both recreational divers and those looking to start their training journey.

As an SSI affiliated centre, Extra Divers Speyside provides a range of training programmes. This includes the Open Water Diver course for beginners and various other SSI certifications for those looking to advance their skills.

Instruction is available in English and German, ensuring clear communication during your training sessions.

The centre operates a speedboat for its morning dive trips. These excursions typically consist of two dives with a surface interval of approximately one hour, allowing you to visit the islands and reefs surrounding the Speyside area.

Full equipment hire is available on-site for divers who prefer not to travel with their own kit. The centre utilises 12-litre aluminium cylinders equipped with both DIN and INT fittings to accommodate different regulator types.

Safety is a priority, and the centre is equipped with oxygen for use in emergencies. Please note that Nitrox is not currently offered at this location.

The Atlantic influence brings a wealth of large pelagics to the area. You will frequently encounter Manta ray (Mobula alfredi), eagle rays (Aetobatus), and spotted eagle rays. Large schools of fish, including various snappers and rainbow runners, move through the water column, often accompanied by barracudas and cobias.

The reef structures are home to a variety of turtles, including Hawksbill turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata) and juvenile green turtle. You can also find Nurse shark (Ginglymostoma cirratum) and sand sharks patrolling the bottom, alongside various species of stingrays.

Macro life and smaller inhabitants are abundant among the corals and reef crevices. Look for Seahorse (Hippocampus kuda), spiny lobster (Palinuridae), and various crabs. Moray eel (Muraenidae) and different species of grouper (Epinephelus) are also common residents of the reef.

The seabed is decorated with brain corals and various soft coral (Alcyonacea) species, providing a complex habitat for reef fish, damselfish (Pomacentridae), and colourful angelfish (Pomacanthidae).

Diving is possible year-round, with water temperatures remaining stable. While the Caribbean side offers more sheltered sites, the Atlantic side can produce stronger waves and currents, which create spectacular drift diving opportunities.

During the European summer months, you may encounter slightly more rainfall in the region.
