Alpha Divers

Located in Larnaca, Cyprus, Alpha Divers has established itself as a cornerstone of the local diving community over the last 12 years. As a PADI 5 Star Career Development Centre, they serve as a hub for both recreational enthusiasts and serious technical divers looking to advance their skills.

The centre is most famously associated with the Zenobia wreck, one of the most significant wreck diving opportunities in the Mediterranean. Their expertise in this area is well-documented, having been chosen as the service provider for the Discovery Channel's 'Legends of the Deep' series featuring the Cousteau family.

The team is composed of highly qualified professionals, including a PADI Course Director and several Master Instructors. This depth of expertise ensures that whether you are a beginner or a professional candidate, you are learning from divers with significant technical and instructional experience.

Many of the staff members are also active technical divers, which is vital for the level of training offered on-site. They maintain a focus on small groups to ensure personalised service and a high standard of safety throughout every dive.

Alpha Divers offers a comprehensive range of PADI courses, starting from Discover Scuba Diving and the Bubblemaker programme through to advanced certifications like Advanced Open Water Diver and Rescue Diver. They also facilitate the path to professional status through Divemaster, Assistant Instructor, and Open Water Scuba Instructor training.

For technical divers, the centre provides specialised training including Tec 40, Tec 45, Tec 50, and Tec Trimix 65. They also offer Sidemount Diver courses for both recreational and technical divers, as well as various specialty courses such as Wreck Diver, Deep Diver, and Enriched Air Nitrox.

The Kallypso II is a 13-metre rigid dive boat with a capacity for 22 divers. It is powered by twin 300 Hp Volvo Penta inboard engines and features a unique diver lift, a rare facility among the local fleet. On board, you will find a spacious diving platform, a sun deck, freshwater showers, and toilets. For those on full-day safaris, lunch is provided on the boat.

The Supercat 1 is a 12-metre catamaran designed for 26 divers, powered by twin 250 hp Honda 4-stroke outboards. This vessel is well-equipped for larger groups and offers a stable platform for diving. Like the Kallypso II, it includes amenities such as a sun deck, freshwater showers, and toilets, with lunch served during full-day safari trips.

The centre operates a well-stocked retail shop offering high-quality equipment from brands such as X-Deep, Mares, and Shearwater. Full kit hire is available for divers who prefer not to travel with their own regulators, BCDs, or exposure suits.

Nitrox is available for all divers, and the centre is equipped to support technical diving requirements, including Trimix and rebreather (CCR) diving. For those looking to specialise, the shop carries a range of professional-grade gear to suit technical and recreational needs.

The Mediterranean waters here are home to a variety of larger species, including resident turtles, Loggerhead sea turtles (Caretta caretta), and Great barracuda (Sphyraena barracuda). You may also encounter Amberjack (Seriola), Tuna (Thunnus), and various species of Grouper (Epinephelus) patrolling the wrecks and reefs.

In the rocky areas and around the wrecks, you will find Moray eel (Muraenidae), Lionfish (Pterois volitans), and Octopus (Octopus vulgaris). The reef structures are decorated with colourful sponges, corals, and sea anemones, providing a habitat for many smaller inhabitants.

For macro enthusiasts, the area offers sightings of Nudibranch (Chromodoris willani) and Seahorse (Hippocampus kuda). You might also spot various species of Triggerfish (Balistidae), Damselfish, and Wrasse (Labridae) darting through the crevices, alongside colourful reef fish and sea urchins.

Diving in this region is highly varied, with sites ranging from shallow wrecks to deep walls and cave systems. While many sites are accessible to all levels, certain penetrations on the Zenobia are reserved for certified technical divers.

Nitrox is mandatory for all dives on the Zenobia wreck to ensure safety and optimise decompression profiles. The centre also supports advanced gas blending for those conducting technical missions.
