Cyprus Marine Police

The local reefs are home to a variety of large resident species. You will frequently encounter the Large rock cod (Epinephelus marginatus) patrolling the structures, alongside various species of Sea bream (Sparidae) and Groupers (Epinephelus).

In the open water and around the reef edges, larger pelagics and predators can be seen. Look out for the Great barracuda (Sphyraena barracuda), Tuna (Thunnus), and Amberjack (Seriola) moving through the water column, as well as Lionfish (Pterois volitans).

The seabed and reef structures host a wealth of smaller, more intricate life. You can find various species of Wrasse (Labridae), Damselfish (Pomacentridae), and Moray eel (Muraenidae) amongst the crevices. For those with a keen eye, the area also supports Nudibranch (Chromodoris willani), Seahorse (Hippocampus kuda), and various Octopus (Octopus vulgaris) species.

The hard substrate is enriched by various life forms, including Phyllangia muchezii (hard shell corals) and other corals that provide the foundation for this vibrant ecosystem.
