Aegialis Hotel & Spa

Aegialis Hotel & Spa is made for the part of the holiday that starts when the fins are rinsed and the day’s plan becomes considerably less ambitious. You have sea views from an airy room, a spa built around seawater, and enough places to eat and drink without turning every evening into a logistical exercise. The setting is polished, but the island still gets to do the talking: Aegiali Bay below, mountains behind, and the Aegean spread out in front of you.

This is also a proper wellness address rather than a hotel that has added a treatment room as an afterthought. Lalon Idor Spa, yoga and Pilates spaces, cooking lessons, wine tasting and Greek evenings give you plenty to do when you are travelling with a non-diving partner, or when your body has already made its position clear. The hotel welcomes families as well, with family rooms, a games room, a playground and babysitting services.

You are in Aegiali, on Amorgos, on a slight hill overlooking Aegiali Bay. The hotel is by the sea and within walking distance of the sandy beaches at Aegiali and Levrossos, with Psili Ammos also close by. Aegiali Beach is about 0.5 miles away on foot, while Levrossos Beach is roughly 200 metres away. That is close enough for a proper swim, not merely a view of one.

Aegiali’s shops are within walking distance, and the port of Aegiali is about 1 km from the hotel. A bus stop sits directly outside, which is handy when the island road has persuaded you that a taxi was the more sensible invention. Taverna To Panorama and Thalassino Oneiro are both roughly 1 mile away, while the archaeological site of Aegiali is about 1 mile from the hotel.

Every room comes with a sea-view balcony, air conditioning and a refrigerator, so you can return to cold water, hang up the day’s clothes and let the room cool down while your pulse catches up. You also have a safe, hairdryer, bathrobes, pool towels, slippers, a coffee machine and an electric kettle. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel. For two, the sea-view double rooms keep things straightforward, with a king-size bed and the view doing most of the decorative work. Families and groups have several larger layouts, including suites with separate sleeping arrangements; the Junior Family Suite can accommodate up to six and has two bathrooms. If you are travelling as a couple and want an outdoor feature rather than extra beds, the Deluxe Room with Outdoor Hot Tub, or one of the deep-pool and cave-pool rooms, changes the feel of the stay.

Breakfast is a buffet with Greek touches alongside American-style choices, including homemade jams, croissants and pastries. Ambrosia Restaurant covers breakfast, lunch and dinner, with a Mediterranean menu that gives traditional Amorgian dishes proper space alongside international and vegetarian plates. Local recipes include patatato, fava and favokeftedes, with produce from the island and Greek wines on the terrace overlooking the bay.

For an easier lunch, Calypso Restaurant sits beside the pool and serves handmade pizzas, salads, fresh pasta, wraps, burgers and homemade Naxian fries. There are two bars. Apeiro Bar is the lobby option, with signature cocktails, premium spirits and wines on an indoor lounge and outdoor terrace; Calypso Bar stays by the pool with cocktails, fresh juices, smoothies, coffee and light refreshments. Special-diet menus are available on request, and breakfast can be taken in your room.

The large sea-water pool gives you somewhere to float without sand finding its way into every pocket. Free sun loungers, umbrellas and showers are available around it, while the indoor pool at Lalon Idor Spa adds massage jets, a flowing stream and a water cannon. Under its glass roof, you can swim in daylight or look up at the stars in the evening. It is the sort of facility that makes a second swim feel like recovery rather than another activity to tick off.

Lalon Idor Spa combines a thalasso seawater pool with hydrotherapy, a sauna, hammam, Jacuzzi, relaxation areas and treatments including massage, facials, body scrubs, manicures and pedicures. The fitness centre has panoramic sea views, and the hotel offers yoga, meditation and Pilates, with a dedicated Pilates studio and eight indoor and outdoor spaces for retreats and movement. When you want something more island-shaped, choose a guided hike, a boat excursion, a Greek cooking or dancing lesson, or a wine tasting. Live music, Greek evenings and a shared lounge give you alternatives when the legs have had enough.

Amorgos has no airport, so you reach the island by ferry or high-speed vessel. Athens International Airport is the practical gateway, followed by a ferry from Piraeus; services also connect Amorgos with Santorini and Naxos during the summer season. Ferries call at both ports on Amorgos, and Aegiali is the one near the hotel. The port is about 1 km away, and the hotel has a shuttle service that you can arrange with the property.

Check-in runs from 15:00 and check-out until 11:00. The reception is open around the clock, with concierge, tour desk and luggage storage services. You have free public parking on site, including an electric-vehicle charging station, although spaces cannot be reserved. Car hire, packed lunches, room service, daily housekeeping and free Wi-Fi are also available. The hotel accepts cash, and pets are welcome.

The hotel’s practical measures cover both the room and the wider operation. You have individual room temperature control, a key master switch for lights and heating or cooling, dual-flush bathrooms and refillable liquid-soap dispensers. Heating and cooling switch off when windows are open, while double glazing and shaded building overhangs help reduce heat gain.

Solar thermal heating supplies hot water for rooms, the indoor pool, Jacuzzi and spa, alongside a biological water-treatment system. Food, glass and cooking oil are recycled, and hazardous items such as batteries and electronics are collected for recycling. The restaurants use produce from the organic garden and local ingredients from Amorgos, while the hotel supports path cleaning, dry-stone-wall restoration and beach-restoration work.
