Coralli Beach Hotel

English, German, French and Greek are spoken by the hotel team, so you can deal with the practicalities of a diving holiday without resorting to semaphore at reception. Coralli Beach Hotel is a large beachfront property with 186 rooms, a garden, a pool and several places to eat and drink. The hotel was renovated in 2023, which matters when your main luxury is returning to a room that works properly after a long day in salt water.

You can make this as easy-going or as sociable as you like. The beach is directly outside, the pool has a bar, and the evening brings restaurants, cocktails, live music and shows several times a week. Families are well catered for, but couples can also choose a smaller double room, settle on a balcony and leave the children to the hotel’s organised activities. That is a useful distinction: this is a full-service beach hotel, not a small hideaway where the entertainment ends when the lights are switched off.

You are in Kokkíni Khánion, on the north coast of Crete, with direct access to a 150-metre stretch of golden sand. Gournes Beach is about 150 metres away, while Kokkini Chani Beach is roughly 200 metres from the hotel. The sea is not something you need to reach by taxi; it is part of the daily layout.

Cretaquarium Thalassocosmos is about 1 mile away, an easy choice for a non-diving morning or a day when the weather has other plans. Taverna Arkadi is around 1.2 miles away, and The Whisky Bar is roughly 1.1 miles away. Heraklion’s principal sights sit further west: the Palace of Knossos is about 6 miles away, while the Heraklion Archaeological Museum and Rocca a Mare Fortress are each around 9 miles away.

Heraklion International Airport is approximately 5 miles away by road. The hotel is therefore handy for an arrival or departure day, while still giving you a proper coastal base rather than placing you in the city itself.

The room choice is mainly about how much space you need and what you want to see when you open the balcony door. Double rooms keep things straightforward for two, while the triple and family rooms give three or four guests room to sleep without turning every suitcase into a piece of furniture. The Family Room with Side Sea View is the one to look at when a glimpse of the water matters; garden-view rooms make more sense if you would rather keep the room category practical and spend your time outside.

For a couple, an Economy Double Room with its king-size bed is the uncomplicated option. Travelling with another diver or with family, the larger quadruple rooms use a king-size bed plus single beds, so you are not negotiating who gets the sofa every evening. Family rooms also come with private bathrooms, and every room has air conditioning, a refrigerator, a desk, wardrobe space and a balcony.

The refrigerator is the small detail that earns its keep when you return hot, thirsty and mildly disinclined to speak. Air conditioning helps you sleep after a warm day outdoors, while the private bathroom, shower and daily housekeeping keep the routine pleasantly unremarkable. Rooms on upper floors are reached by stairs, so keep that in mind if your knees have begun submitting formal complaints. WiFi is free throughout the hotel, and the property is non-smoking.

Half-board is the main formula, with breakfast and dinner covered. Dionysos Restaurant handles the morning buffet from 07:30, with continental choices, fresh pastries, cheese, fruit and juice, as well as vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options. Dinner is served in an air-conditioned interior, with international dishes available from the buffet and à la carte selection. Smart-casual dress applies in the evening.

Pelagos Restaurant changes the setting rather than asking you to sit indoors again: lunch and dinner are served on the terrace, with Mediterranean dishes and a sea view. Lunch runs from 12:30 to 14:30, and dinner from 19:00 to 22:00. That makes it the natural place for a relaxed midday meal when you have no appetite for a formal production and simply want food, shade and a view of the water.

There are two bars. Apollo Bar is the lobby bar, serving cocktails, beer and wine; Poseidon Bar sits by the pool and does much the same job with considerably less distance between your drink and the water. Room service is available for limited hours, so check the timing if you are planning a meal in the room rather than at one of the restaurants.

The main pool is outdoors, large enough to make a proper swim possible, and lined with sunbeds and umbrellas. The pool bar is built into the arrangement, which saves you the difficult expedition from lounger to refreshment. On the beach, you have golden sand, sunbeds, parasols, showers and a beach bar, with the sea only a few steps from the hotel.

For recovery rather than exercise, the Spa offers massages, facials, a sauna and a jacuzzi. There is also a fitness centre with a range of equipment, useful if your idea of rest involves keeping the legs moving rather than surrendering them entirely to a sunbed. Kayaking, paddleboarding, snorkelling and boat excursions provide ways to get back on the water without repeating the same day in a different wetsuit.

When you want to stay on dry land, the hotel organises excursions to Knossos and Heraklion. Live music and shows take place several times a week, while families have a kids’ club for children aged 4 to 12, children’s activities, a children’s pool, a children’s menu and babysitting. The result is a place where you can choose your own level of involvement: spa, beach, city, pool or a quiet drink while somebody else supplies the evening’s noise.

Check-in runs from 14:00 to 23:00, and check-out is by 11:00. Private and express check-in and check-out are available, with luggage storage for the awkward gap between leaving the room and leaving the island. Early check-in and late check-out can be requested. Cancellation and prepayment conditions vary by room category, so read the terms attached to the room you choose rather than assuming every option follows the same rules.

Free private parking is available on site without reservation, and car hire can be arranged. An airport shuttle is available for a charge and should be arranged with the hotel. Laundry and pressing services are available, as are a reception safe, lockers, a concierge and two meeting rooms. You can pay with cash, Visa or Mastercard.

Children of every age are welcome, and there is no minimum age for check-in. Cots and extra beds are not available, so the existing bed arrangement matters when you are travelling as a group. The hotel also accepts pets. Upper floors are accessible by stairs only, a practical point worth considering before booking a room with a view.
