Fare Oaoa Haapiti

Fare Oaoa Haapiti is a small guesthouse on the lagoon at Haapiti, made up of a main house and five recently renovated Fares. You stay directly on the sand, with the water in front of you and the Haapiti surf spot across the lagoon. There is no grand-resort machinery to navigate; the place is arranged around the beach, the garden, the pool and your own space.

That suits you if a diving day should end with bare feet, a cold drink and somewhere to sit rather than a timetable of organised entertainment. The lagoon is shallow and calm in front of the property, kayaks and snorkelling equipment are available free of charge, and the concierge can arrange excursions. Families can use the setting easily, while couples have the more obvious pleasure of a beachside Fare and a hammock that does not require an appointment.

You are in Moorea, French Polynesia, at Haapiti, directly beside the lagoon. The beach is white sand, with sun loungers, chairs and hammocks in front of the bungalows. The lagoon itself is public, shallow and calm, so the boundary between your terrace and the water is more useful than any grand geographical description.

The location is practical as well as scenic. An épicerie sits opposite the property, while a smoothie stand is about two minutes away. Poissonnerie Snack Moorea Seafood is roughly 0.5 miles away by road, and Pizza Daniel is about 1.5 miles away. Tiahura Beach is around 5 miles away, a drive of about ten minutes.

Moorea Airport is approximately 15 miles away, with a drive of about 27 minutes; the property also describes the airport journey as around 30 minutes. The ferry terminal at Vaiare is about 20 minutes away. You are facing the Haapiti surf spot, with the lagoon flat and clear in the morning.

The accommodation works particularly well when you want the advantages of a guesthouse without giving up the useful bits of self-catering. Every unit has a private bathroom, a fully equipped kitchen, a dining area and a seating area, along with a fridge, microwave, hob, toaster, kettle, coffee machine and kitchenware. After a long day in the water, that means you can make a proper drink, store something cold and decide whether you really want to go out again.

For two, the Beach Front Bungalows put the lagoon closest to your door; the Patio Bungalows give you outdoor space without making the beach the whole point of the room. The Sea View Suite adds room for three, while the sea-view apartments make more sense for a family or a group who want to cook and sit together. The Beach Front Villa is the large option, with room for up to eight people and two bathrooms. Air-conditioning is available for the hotter part of the night, while a fan gives you another way to move the air. You also have a wardrobe, clothes rack, drying rack and a washing machine in the kitchen facilities. Breakfast is included and arrives as a continental buffet in your room from 07:30. There is no continuous snacking service described, so the opposite épicerie and the kitchens in the accommodation are useful details rather than decorative extras.

The shared outdoor pool and jacuzzi sit in the garden, while a second private pool belongs to Maison Magnolia. The beach gives you the simpler option: a lounger, a chair or a hammock facing the lagoon, with no need to manufacture an activity once the day is done. Pool and beach towels are available.

The lagoon is the practical playground here. You can take a kayak out or use the available snorkelling equipment, and the water in front of the property is shallow and calm. Dolphins are part of the morning lagoon scene described for the location. Boat outings, lagoon tours and wildlife excursions can also be arranged through the concierge, including whale-swimming trips.

For a quieter recovery day, yoga and meditation take place on a wooden deck facing the lagoon, with mats available on request. A traditional Tahitian massage can be arranged in your Fare, on the terrace or beneath the palms. At sunset, live Polynesian music on the beach terrace brings ukulele, guitar and toere into the evening without turning the whole property into a showground.

You can reach the property by taxi or by hiring a car to collect at the terminal. Airport transfers are available by taxi on request, and the concierge can help organise transfers and excursions. Free private parking is available on site, with no reservation required. Car hire is also available.

Arrival arrangements depend on the building: the Fare check-in time is given as 12:00, while Maison Principale check-in is from 14:00. The booking check-in window is 14:00 to 18:00, so tell the property your arrival time in advance rather than leaving it to chance after the ferry or flight. Check-out is by 10:00, with early arrival and late departure available on request.

Children of all ages are welcome. Maison Magnolia can accommodate a family of six, and a cot or extra bed can be added where the selected accommodation allows it; extra beds are not available across the property as a general rule. There is no minimum age for check-in. Smoking, pets and parties are not permitted, and cash is not accepted. A washing machine is available as part of the accommodation facilities, which is handy when your clothes have had as much salt and sun as you have.
