SeaXplore Dive Center

Located in the heart of Sodwana Bay, SeaXplore Dive Center operates within the iSimangaliso Wetland Park World Heritage Site. This area is globally recognised for its diverse marine ecosystems and significant deep-water habitats, including canyons that host rare species.

The centre is designed for divers who value precision and personal service. Whether you are completing your first Open Water Diver certification or pushing the limits of technical diving in the deep canyons, the focus remains on small groups and tailored dive profiles.

With more than 25 years of experience in all aspects of diving, the team at SeaXplore provides highly professional instruction and guiding. Their expertise spans the entire spectrum of the sport, from entry-level recreational training to complex technical diving.

The centre is an SSI affiliate, offering a comprehensive curriculum that includes professional development for those aspiring to become Divemasters or Instructors. Their teaching philosophy emphasises a personalised approach, allowing you to choose your own dive sites, depths, and durations.

The training programme is extensive, covering the full range of SSI certifications. Beginners can start with Try Scuba or Basic Diver, progressing through Open Water Diver and Advanced Open Water Diver, up to Master Diver.

Technical training is a core specialty at SeaXplore. You can undertake courses in Enriched Air Nitrox, Deep Diving, Decompression Diving, and the full XR range, including Extended Range, Technical XR, and Hypoxic Trimix. The centre also offers specialised training in Rebreather diving, Gas Blending, and Search & Recovery.

The shore-based facilities are fully equipped to support both recreational and technical divers. On-site, you will find a compressor, helium, and oxygen, alongside all the necessary equipment for gas analysis and blending. A qualified gas blender is available to manage your specific requirements.

For those travelling with their own kit, there is a dedicated area for equipment storage and rinsing. Full kit hire is also available by arrangement, including specialised items such as rebreathers and twinsets for technical diving.

The marine life in Sodwana Bay is incredibly diverse, ranging from large pelagics to intricate reef ecosystems. You can encounter various sharks, including Ragged-tooth sharks from November to January, and Whale sharks between October and February. Manta rays, dolphins, and various species of turtles are also frequently seen by divers.

On the reef, look for large schools of fish such as snappers, fusiliers, and slingers. You may also spot potato groupers, hammerhead sharks, and various gamefish patrolling the structures. The presence of mantas and rays adds a significant element to the pelagic sightings.

Macro life enthusiasts will find much to explore among the corals and crevices. The area is home to numerous nudibranchs, including various species of soft coral nudibranchs, as well as octopus, seahorses, and pipefish. Scorpionfish, frogfish, and various species of shrimp inhabit the reef floor, providing excellent opportunities for close-up observation.

Fixed life is abundant, with a rich variety of hard and soft corals, sea fans (Gorgoniidae), and sea anemones (Actiniaria) providing the habitat for the local fauna. You will also find sponges, sea cucumbers, and various echinoderms throughout the dive sites.

The dive sites in this region include a variety of topographies, from shallow reefs to deep canyons and steep walls. Divers should be prepared for different environments, ranging from sandy bottom explorations to deep-water canyon dives.
