Scuba Buddy is a PADI registered dive centre situated on Mabul Island, Malaysia. It serves as a convenient and well-connected hub for those looking to explore the renowned reefs of the region, particularly the protected waters of Sipadan Island.

Founded by Qawiem, Fakhriyah, and Irfan, the centre is run by a team described as passionate and patient. They place a heavy emphasis on safety and providing a personalised experience for every diver, ensuring that training is tailored to your specific needs and pace.

As a PADI affiliated centre, they offer a structured progression of courses. The team is dedicated to fostering a friendly atmosphere, making the centre a suitable choice for those seeking a more intimate and less crowded diving experience compared to larger commercial hubs.

Scuba Buddy offers a comprehensive curriculum of PADI courses. Beginners can start with Discovery Scuba Diving, Bubblemaker, or the Open Water Diver course. For those looking to advance their skills, the centre provides Advanced Open Water Diver, Deep Diver, and Rescue Diver training.

The professional pathway is also available, including Divemaster certification. Additionally, the centre provides specialised training such as the PADI Nitrox course to extend your bottom time, as well as EFR (Emergency First Response) and SEALTEAM programmes.

The centre provides a full range of rental kit for those not travelling with their own equipment. This includes BCDs, regulators, wetsuits, fins, masks, and weights. For night dives, torches are also available for hire.

Every diver is required to have their own dive computer for all outings. The centre also offers dive computer rental to ensure you are fully equipped for your sessions on the reef or the wall.

The reefs around Mabul and Sipadan are home to a vast array of larger species. You can expect to encounter green sea turtles (Chelonia mydas) and Hawksbill turtles (Eretmochelys imbricata) gliding through the water. Schools of snapper (Lutjanus), barracudas, and various jacks (Carangidae) are common, alongside sightings of reef sharks (Carcharhinus), Whitetip reef sharks (Triaenodon obesus), and Grey reef sharks (Carcharhinus amblyrhynchos).

The macro life in this region is particularly exceptional for those with an eye for detail. You will find a diverse range of nudibranchs, flamboyant cuttlefish, and various species of octopus, including the mimic octopus. Seahorses (Hippocampus kuda), pygmy seahorse (Hippocampus bargibanti), and ghost pipefish (Solenostomidae) inhabit the corals, while frogfish (Antennarius) and various scorpionfish are often found camouflaged on the seabed.

Crustaceans and smaller inhabitants add to the complexity of the ecosystem. Look out for harlequin shrimps, boxer crabs, mantis shrimp, and various species of shrimp (Caridea). The seabed also hosts a variety of gobies, snake eels, and colourful sea slugs, making every dive a search for something new.

The diving conditions in the area are characterised by warm waters and generally low currents, making it an accessible region for a wide range of divers. The environment is conducive to relaxed exploration, particularly around the reef flats of Mabul.

While conditions are favourable year-round, the area is subject to the typical tropical patterns of the Celebes Sea. The calm nature of the local waters allows for easy surface intervals and comfortable diving throughout the year.
