Scubateam

Located in Santa Maria, Scubateam is the first officially opened dive centre on the island of Sal. With 35 years of experience in Cape Verde, they have established themselves as a cornerstone of the local diving community, providing access to the island's unique Atlantic-Mediterranean-Tropical marine environment.

The waters around Sal remain largely intact and undiscovered, offering a rare opportunity to explore a marine ecosystem that has not been impacted by excessive tourism. The centre operates in these pristine conditions, guiding you through a diverse range of underwater landscapes.

The team at Scubateam consists of professional instructors and guides who are regularly trained, with first aid certifications renewed annually. They maintain a strict safety standard, adhering to surface interval protocols, which is essential as there is no hyperbaric chamber in Cape Verde.

To ensure a personalised experience, the centre maintains a ratio of maximum six divers per guide. Communication is never a barrier, as the staff is multilingual, speaking French, Portuguese, English, Spanish, Italian, and Creole.

Scubateam offers a comprehensive range of PADI courses for every level of experience. Beginners can start with the Scuba Diver course or the Open Water Course, while those looking to advance can undertake the Advanced Water Course or the Rescue Diver certification.

For those seeking specific skills, the centre provides the EFR (Emergency First Response) course. They also facilitate the Referral process and offer an upgrade from Scuba Diver to Open Water.

The centre provides a full range of rental kit, including Beuchat equipment that undergoes annual maintenance. All regulators, BCDs, and cylinders are visually inspected every 5 years and tested in accordance with European legislation.

Safety is prioritised with oxygen available on board for all trips. The facility is located just 50 metres from the Hotel Morabeza in Santa Maria.

The marine life in this region is remarkably diverse, featuring over 60 endemic species. You can encounter large pelagics and reef inhabitants such as Manta ray (Mobula alfredi), various species of Shark (Selachimorpha), and turtles (Cheloniidae).

In the waters around Sal, you will find a variety of tropical fish, Barracuda, and Stingrays (Myliobatiformes). You may also spot Nudibranch (Chromodoris willani), Spiny lobster, and Moray eel (Muraenidae) amongst the reef structures.

For those interested in macro life, the area is home to a variety of Nudibranch (Chromodoris willani) and other small invertebrates.

From March to November, visibility is at its best, providing ideal conditions for observing the diverse fauna in these crystal-clear waters.
