SilverSand Beach Resort

White sand, a beach bar and the Andaman Sea outside the gate: SilverSand Beach Resort keeps the post-dive decision-making pleasantly simple.

The invitation

You arrive at a resort made for days that move between sea, shade and something cold to drink. The beach is part of the setting rather than a distant excursion, while the choice of a restaurant, bar, spa or pool gives you somewhere to land when the fins are finally put away.

English is spoken by the hotel team, so you can deal with the practical details without turning every request into a hand signal. The resort also welcomes families, has a garden and offers free Wi-Fi throughout the property. It is a straightforward base for a beach stay on Swaraj Dweep, with enough on site to keep an evening from becoming an expedition.

The point on the map

The resort sits directly on the seafront at No. 5, Vijay Nagar Beach, Swaraj Dweep, on Havelock Island in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The beach has white sand, loungers and parasols, with the Sting Ray beach bar close at hand. In other words, getting to the sea does not require a vehicle, a timetable or heroic levels of enthusiasm.

Swaraj Dweep town centre is 6 km away. The location therefore gives you a beach-first stay while keeping the island’s main centre within reach when you need it. Free on-site parking is available, and the hotel can arrange airport transfers for the journey in.

The rooms, and the nights

The room range runs from single rooms through standard and deluxe doubles to suites, villas and cottages. For a solo diver, a single room keeps things simple; for two people sharing a double bed, the choice becomes more about the view and the extra room category than about finding somewhere merely adequate to sleep. Family suites and larger accommodation provide a route for travelling with children or a group.

The more fully equipped categories are practical after a long day outside: air conditioning, a ceiling fan, a fridge, tea and coffee facilities, blackout blinds, soundproofing and a private bathroom with shower are all available in selected rooms. A television, wardrobe, desk, telephone, hairdryer and toiletries also appear according to category. The useful detail here is the mix: the fridge handles cold water, the blackout blinds help when the next morning starts early, and the air conditioning gives you a proper reset after heat and salt.

If the view matters, there are rooms looking towards the ocean, sea, water, pool or garden, as well as balcony options and suites with a dining area. The deluxe double room with sea view combines that outlook with a fridge, minibar, tea and coffee facilities, desk and soundproofing. Room service runs around the clock, which is handy when your appetite keeps different hours from the restaurant.

The taste of the place

Three dining venues give you a choice of setting rather than one large room for every meal. Zola serves breakfast, lunch and dinner indoors and outdoors, with a multi-cuisine menu drawing on dishes from East to West. Breakfast is offered as a buffet, giving you the sort of start that can be as quick or as unhurried as the morning allows.

Shanya's Kitchen is an outdoor global restaurant serving all three meals from 11:00 to 23:00. It is the beachside option for a relaxed meal, with less ceremony and more open air. Sting Ray covers similar hours, from 11:00 to 23:00, as a beach restaurant and bar serving food and drinks beside the sand.

There is one named bar, Sting Ray, and it is attached to the beach rather than hidden somewhere in the building. That makes the evening routine fairly obvious: eat at the shore, order a drink, and let someone else deal with the washing-up. Room service is available 24 hours a day when the sensible plan is simply to stay in.

Doing something, or doing nothing

The beach is the main event when you are not in the water: white sand, loungers, parasols and a bar within the resort grounds. There is also an outdoor swimming pool, so you can choose between salt water and fresh water without turning the afternoon into a logistics exercise.

Nirvana Spa offers massage, facials and aromatherapy, using Ayurvedic and massage-based treatments alongside aromatherapy. That gives you a useful answer to stiff shoulders and the particular sort of tiredness that appears after several days of diving. A gym is also available for anyone who still feels the need to negotiate with gravity.

Fishing is offered as a leisure activity, and the resort has a garden for quieter time away from the beach. Excursion assistance is available through the hotel, while a concierge can help organise the practical side of exploring the island. There is also a conference room and a meeting room for guests combining work with the coast, although the beach is likely to put up a reasonable argument against opening the laptop.

Things to do in Andaman & Nicobar beyond diving

Your last day stays dry: no diving in the 18-24 hours before a flight, the perfect window to see the destination from another angle.

What to know before booking

Check-in runs from 12:00 to 15:00 and check-out is at 09:00. Airport transfers are available through the resort, in a private or shared arrangement to be booked with the hotel. Free on-site parking is available, and luggage storage, a reception safe, laundry, dry cleaning and a doctor on request add useful support around the edges of the stay.

Reaching Swaraj Dweep involves the ferry connection from Port Blair. Government ferries and catamarans operate on the route, with the crossing taking roughly one and a half to three and a half hours depending on the service. If your flight lands in Port Blair after 13:30, the onward ferry connection means spending the first night there before continuing the following day. Ferry boarding closes 30 minutes before sailing, so the transfer needs more planning than simply stepping off a plane and joining a queue.

Ferry tickets are best arranged ahead of time. Sailings can be affected by weather, and catamarans do not operate during the monsoon season. Timings can change at short notice, so check the departure details again shortly before travelling. On site, payment is accepted in cash as well as Visa, Mastercard and American Express.

Please note that there will be no refund on the government ferry tickets or MAKRUZZ or coastal cruise tickets, if already purchased. HOW TO REACH HAVELOCK ISLAND: There are number of ferries that ply between Port Blair and Havelock on a daily basis. Do note that in case you are booking any flight to Port Blair that lands after 1330 hrs you will have to spend the first night at Port Blair and can proceed to Havelock only by next day ferry. Travelers can choose between the slower, cheaper government ferry and the faster, more expensive new catamaran depending on their arrival time in Port Blair as well as their budget. Please note however that getting tickets on the ferry can be very hard and tiresome with long queues. Depending on the rush it can be extremely hard and even impossible to procure tickets last minute and hence advance booking is always suggested. You will need to keep sufficient time to get the appropriate ferry. Please note that boarding stops 30 minutes before sailing. All sailings are subject to weather conditions. Availability for ferry tickets: Buying a ferry ticket in the Andamans is not as easy as one might think. Demand for tickets is always greater than the number of seats available. There is no internet reservation system in place and tickets are issued on a first-come first-serve basis. We do not guarantee that we will at all times get you a ferry ticket, but can assure you that we will do our absolute best to buy them, once you have booked the transfers with us. Although very rare, it is possible that despite our best efforts we are unable to get a ticket for you. However given our experience in this department and our local staff, our chances of getting the ticket are a lot better than the one you have when you arrive and stand in queue last minute.
