The atoll is a stronghold for large pelagics and reef residents. You can expect to see various sharks, including grey reef sharks, blacktip sharks, whitetip sharks, and nurse sharks. Eagle rays and manta rays are also frequently encountered, with specific seasons for cleaning stations at Sola Corner and Maafaru Thila between January and April, and Kottefaru Bodu Thila between June and November.

Reef life is abundant across the various sites. You will find blue-line snappers, oriental sweetlips, anemonefish, and various species of triggerfish. Large schools of fusiliers, snappers, and trevallies often move through the water column, while moray eels and octopuses inhabit the crevices of the reef.

Diving in Raa Atoll is influenced by the seasonal shifts in plankton abundance. While manta rays can be seen year-round, the peak periods for specific cleaning stations vary, with the eastern side of the atoll being most active from June to November.
