You arrive at Nova Maldives for an all-inclusive resort stay on a natural island in South Ari Atoll, with the sea doing most of the talking. The atmosphere is relaxed and modern rather than ceremonious, with beach villas, water villas, a lagoon setting and a programme that mixes food, wellness and water-based activities without requiring you to sit still all day.

English is spoken by the hotel team, so you can deal directly with the people looking after your stay. That matters when you are discussing meals, excursions, spa treatments or the practical details of getting on and off an island. Families are welcome, while interconnecting villas give larger groups a more workable arrangement than simply hoping everyone will fit around one small room.

The resort also leans into the social side of island life: live music, local culture, street-food events and evenings on a private sandbank. You can have a quiet day if that is what you need, but the place has enough going on for a couple travelling together when one of you has had quite enough lying horizontal in the sun.

Nova Maldives is in Dhangethi, Maldives, on a natural island in South Ari Atoll. It sits directly on the seafront, with a private beach area, white sand, palms and a lagoon environment. Beach villas open towards the shore, while the water villas put you over the lagoon rather than behind another building or a road.

Velana International Airport is about 59 miles away, followed by a seaplane journey of around 25 minutes. The transfer is part of the island logistics, not a quick taxi ride to be sorted out after landing. Seaplanes operate in daylight, and international arrivals need to reach the Maldives before the relevant afternoon cut-off for the connection.

You are choosing an island resort rather than a base in a town. Dhangethi Beach is about 4 miles away, while the nearest named beach, Vakarufalhi Maldives Beach, is roughly 350 feet from the property. For food, shopping and wandering beyond the resort, the setting is consequently more Robinson Crusoe than seaside suburb.

The accommodation is built around villas rather than conventional hotel rooms. A Beach Villa makes sense when stepping straight towards the sand is more important to you than being over the water; a Sunset Beach Villa adds the evening-facing angle. The Water Villas suit couples who want the lagoon immediately outside, while the larger pool villas give you more room to spread out and make the private outdoor space part of the stay.

Most villas use an extra-large double bed, and the accommodation range also includes options for groups of up to five. The Suite is the practical choice when a couple of bedrooms and extra living room matter more than the classic beach-or-water decision. Interconnecting villas are available for families, which is considerably more useful than simply labelling a room family-friendly.

Air conditioning and free WiFi cover the unglamorous essentials, while a minibar and tea and coffee-making facilities help when you want water, caffeine or a quiet start without immediately joining the rest of the island. Daily housekeeping, room service and private bathrooms keep the routine simple. Room service operates around the clock, handy when your appetite and the dining timetable fail to meet at the same time.

All-inclusive is the main format, with breakfast, lunch and dinner built into the daily rhythm. Breakfast is a buffet with continental, Italian, Full English and Irish, vegetarian, vegan, halal, gluten-free, kosher, Asian and American choices. There is also continuous snacking, a coffee house, a snack bar and room service, so a missed meal need not become a small personal crisis.

Soul Kitchen handles breakfast, lunch and dinner in an air-conditioned interior, serving international food with views across the resort. Flames takes the evening towards grilled local fish, seafood, meat and vegetables on its terrace. Mizu is the more theatrical option: teppanyaki cooked live on a water-level terrace, with Asian flavours and a menu featuring seaweed. Vegetarian and vegan choices are available.

There are two named bars. Wink is the indoor lobby bar for cocktails, live music and savoury snacks; Solis is the pool bar, serving cocktails, tropical drinks and freshly pressed juices through lunch and dinner. For a more deliberate evening, Nava Pavilion sits on a wooden platform in the lagoon, while Pearl, private beach and sandbank dining, and the local Maldivian Holhuashi experience move dinner away from the main restaurant routine.

The main pool has the Solis bar built into it, with sun loungers, umbrellas and pool or beach towels helping you make a proper afternoon of doing very little. There is also a private white-sand beach, a sun terrace and a garden, so you can choose between the water, the shade and the familiar holiday question of whether moving to another lounger counts as an activity.

Eskape Spa floats above the lagoon and includes three treatment rooms, a traditional Thai Sala, a relaxation room and a yoga pavilion. Treatments range from facials and body wraps to couples' massages and Dhivehi Beys, which brings Maldivian traditional medicine into the spa programme. A foot bath, open-air bath and spa relaxation areas round out the slower options.

Guided sunrise yoga is available, alongside meditation, fitness classes, a fitness centre and a personal trainer. You can also book island-hopping to Dhigurah and Dhangethi, dolphin cruises, sunset fishing, cultural visits to local islands and sandbank outings for picnics, yoga or an evening event. On the livelier side, there is tennis, beach volleyball, a games room, live performances, film nights and a Full Moon Party on a private sandbank.

For time on the water without committing to a full expedition, the resort offers snorkelling, kayaking, paddleboarding, jet-skiing, e-foil, seabob, parasailing and glass-bottom kayaking. Night snorkelling is also part of the programme. Some water activities carry an additional charge.

The airport transfer is by seaplane from Velana International Airport and takes around 25 minutes. It can be arranged as a private or shared transfer through the resort. Seaplanes run during daylight hours, and international flights need to arrive before 15:00 for the connection. Send your flight details to the resort at least seven days before arrival so the transfer can be arranged.

Check-in and check-out are available around the clock, and the front desk is open 24 hours. A concierge, tour desk, luggage storage, currency exchange and private check-in and check-out are available when you need help with the island practicalities. Free WiFi works throughout the resort, and daily housekeeping keeps the villa from acquiring the usual post-beach layer of sand.

Children of all ages are welcome. Cots and extra beds can be requested, subject to the selected accommodation and availability. Cash is accepted, pets are not allowed, and cancellation and prepayment conditions vary by accommodation type. The all-inclusive plan covers the core meals and also offers selected beverages; the resort’s broader activity programme includes options that are charged separately.

Sustainability is part of Nova Maldives’ stated approach, alongside local culture and the island environment. The resort’s food programme gives space to Maldivian cooking and the traditions of the historic maritime trade, while cultural excursions connect you with local islands rather than keeping every experience behind the resort boundary.

The wellness programme also uses local elements, including Dhivehi Beys and seaweed-based treatments. That does not turn a holiday into an environmental seminar, but it does give the place a stronger connection to its setting than a menu and spa programme built entirely from generic international templates.
