Rusi's Pinnacle Wreck and Reef, Viti Levu, Fiji

Dropping into Rusi's Pinnacle, you immediately encounter a 40-meter fishing vessel, purposefully scuttled in 2000, resting upright on the seabed at 32 meters. This wreck has become a living part of the Beqa Lagoon ecosystem, a visual progression as its structure appears through the clear waters.

The entire vessel, from its former deck to the railings, is draped in soft corals, creating a kaleidoscope of colors that shift with the surge. Brittle sea stars cling to every available surface, their delicate arms foraging, adding dynamic life to this artificial reef.

On the upper deck, two giant frogfish often reside, their camouflage masterful against the coral. These patient predators offer a rewarding challenge to spot and extended observation opportunities. The wreck's structure also provides habitat for other fascinating inhabitants.

Moray eels peer from various crevices within the ship's structure, observing passing divers. You may also spot stonefish nestled among the corals, blending perfectly with their environment, and lionfish with their regal fins patrolling the ledges.

Beyond the wreck, the natural pinnacle ascends towards shallower waters, equally adorned in a stunning array of hues. Leaf scorpionfish demonstrate remarkable mimicry, swaying gently as if discarded leaves. This vibrant ecosystem transitions from the structured habitat of the wreck to the undulating profiles of the reef.

The summit of the natural pinnacle is a spectacle, home to no fewer than five different species of anemonefish, each cohabiting with their host anemones. This dense population creates a bustling miniature world, their characteristic movements and territorial displays providing endless fascination for the observing diver.
