7 Sisters Dive Site, Viti Levu: Pinnacles and a Wreck

Diving the 7 Sisters begins with a descent onto a network of seven distinct pinnacles, each rising from the deeper ocean floor to create a complex underwater landscape. As you navigate these formations, you'll be immediately struck by the profusion of soft corals that drape every surface, creating a kaleidoscope of colours. The topography here encourages a diverse marine ecosystem, promising encounters around every corner as you explore the intricate structures of each 'sister.'

In the shallower regions, between 5 and 10 metres, the vibrant reef comes alive with an abundance of reef fish darting amongst the coral gardens. This zone is also a prime location for encountering resident turtles gracefully gliding through the water. Keep a keen eye out for whitetip reef sharks (Triaenodon obesus) that frequently patrol these shallower depths, adding a thrilling dimension to your dive as they cruise past undisturbed.

As you venture deeper, towards 25 metres, a compelling discovery awaits: the wreck of the Tasu II. This artificial reef has become a thriving habitat for a variety of fascinating creatures. Here, you'll spot the distinct, fanned fins of lionfish (Pterois volitans) hiding in its crevices and the delicate, elongated forms of pipefish (Syngnathus) camouflaged against its structure. The Tasu II wreck is also a haven for nudibranchs, with their vibrant colours and intricate patterns providing a feast for the eyes against the muted tones of the sunken vessel. Surrounding the wreck, you'll find entire colonies of garden eels (Heterocongrinae) swaying rhythmically in the gentle currents, a captivating sight as they disappear into their sandy burrows when approached. This deeper section of the site truly highlights the transition of life from coral reef to artificial habitat.

A highlight of the 7 Sisters dive is an extended swim-through, a natural passage that invites exploration. You'll enter this captivating tunnel at 14 metres, where the light shifts and plays through the overhead rock formations. The passage winds its way through the pinnacle before leading you out into the open water again at a shallower depth of 8 metres, offering a unique perspective of the reef's structure and the marine life that thrives within its sheltered confines.
