Shark Cage Diving KZN

Located just south of Durban near Aliwal Shoal, Shark Cage Diving KZN operates out of Rocky Bay. This region is renowned for its warm waters and frequent encounters with a wide variety of shark species.

The centre has been a pioneer in the KwaZulu-Natal shark cage diving scene since 2009. They focus on providing unique encounters through both cage diving and snorkeling, maintaining a holistic and respectful approach to the local marine environment.

The centre is led by John Miller, who brings 25 years of maritime and diving experience to the operation. The team is comprised of seasoned professionals, including James, a Divemaster with 15 years of experience, and Bheki, a skipper with 20 years of experience.

All instruction and boat operations are conducted in English. The team's deep familiarity with the local coastline and species ensures a professional experience for every diver.

The area is a significant hotspot for shark species. You will regularly encounter Blacktip shark (Carcharhinus limbatus), Dusky sharks, Spinner Sharks, Tiger shark (Galeocerdo cuvier), Zambezi sharks, and ragged-tooth sharks. Seasonal visitors to the area include the Great white shark (Carcharodon carcharias) and various whales.

Beyond the sharks, the reef supports a diverse range of pelagic creatures and reef fish. You can observe common dolphin (Delphinus delphis), bottlenose dolphins, and various species of Jack (Carangidae). Other frequent sightings include Manta ray (Mobula alfredi), Green sea turtle (Chelonia mydas), and various types of groupers.

The reef environment is built upon a foundation of vibrant fixed life, including fire coral, whip coral, green feather coral, and yellow turret coral. These corals provide a complex habitat for many of the local species.
