Dive Time Zanzibar

Located in the traditional fishing village of Kizimkazi in southern Zanzibar, DiveTime Zanzibar has been operating since 2016. The centre serves as a gateway to the Menai Bay Conservation Area, an area known for its intact reef systems and diverse biological activity.

All dive departures are organised from Kizimkazi, with transfer services available from surrounding areas including Paje, Jambiani, Bwejuu, Makunduchi, and Mtende. The centre operates as a PADI Dive Resort, providing a structured environment for both recreational exploration and formal training.

The team consists of four instructors dedicated to maintaining safety standards while guiding divers through the local sites. The centre focuses on providing a secure environment for all levels, from those taking their first breaths underwater to more advanced divers.

The centre is integrated with several local accommodation options, including The Residence Resort in Kizimkazi, as well as reservation points at Nest Style in Makunduchi and Blue Reef Sport and Fishing Lodge and Bungalows in Jambiani.

DiveTime Zanzibar offers a comprehensive range of PADI courses. Beginners can start with the Intro to Scuba programme or progress through the full Open Water Diver and Advanced Open Water Diver certifications.

For those looking to advance their technical skills or professional career, the centre provides Rescue Diver and Divemaster training, alongside various PADI Specialty courses. A deposit is required for most professional and specialty courses to secure your training dates.

The centre provides a full range of equipment for hire, allowing you to dive without transporting your own heavy kit. This includes regulators, BCDs, wetsuits, fins, and masks.

For those looking to extend their time underwater or explore at night, various accessories are available. The centre is set up to handle the logistical needs of daily boat-based diving operations.

The reefs are characterised by a high density of coral and a wide variety of tropical fish. You will find large schools of colourful reef fish, including snappers (Lutjanus), emperors, and various species of fusiliers (Caesio). The presence of large predators like the Great barracuda (Sphyraena barracuda) and various reef sharks adds to the dynamic nature of the site.

Macro life is abundant for those who enjoy searching the reef for smaller details. Divers can encounter a variety of nudibranchs, seahorses (Hippocampus kuda), and ghost pipefish (Solenostomidae). The area is also home to various octopus (Octopus vulgaris), scorpionfish (Scorpaenidae), and frogfish (Antennarius) hiding amongst the reef structures.

In the larger water columns and sandy areas, you may encounter blue-spotted rays, stingrays, and green turtles (Chelonia mydas). During the months of August to October, Humpback whales can also be seen in the region.

The diving season is most favourable from June to the end of October, and again from December to the end of March. It is generally advised to avoid the months of April and May due to the rainy season, as well as November, which can see lighter rainfall.

The local marine environment is subject to the seasonal shifts of the Indian Ocean, though the area remains a consistent destination for divers seeking warm tropical waters.
