Our Ocean Diving

Our Ocean Diving has been operating on the island of Nosy Be since 2018. The centre is situated on the beach of Ambarihonko, a location characterised by its lush mangroves and calm coastal waters, providing a relaxed environment for preparing for your dives.

The centre serves as a base for exploring the rich marine biodiversity of the Indian Ocean, including the waters of the Mozambique Channel. Whether you are looking for sheltered reef environments or more open ocean excursions, the itineraries are designed to be personalised to your experience level.

The centre is run by Max and Tea, who lead a professional team dedicated to a high standard of service. They manage everything from the initial dive planning to the final rinsing of your kit after the day's sessions.

As a PADI affiliated centre, they provide structured training and guided excursions. The team focuses on a personalised approach, making them particularly suited for groups who require efficient organisation and tailored itineraries.

For those new to the water, the centre offers PADI Discover Scuba Diving programmes and full certification courses. They provide training for the Open Water Diver level, allowing you to gain internationally recognised qualifications.

More experienced divers can progress through the PADI Divemaster course at the centre. The team is also equipped to handle group training and personalised instruction for those looking to advance their skills.

The centre operates a 7.5-metre boat equipped with a sun protection awning to provide shade during trips. This vessel is used for various excursions, including coastal dives, night dives, and trips to the islands of the archipelago.

The marine life in the region is remarkably diverse. You will regularly encounter various species of turtles, including the Green sea turtle (Chelonia mydas) and the Hawksbill turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata). Large schools of fish such as fusiliers (Caesio), snappers (Lutjanus), and jacks (Carangidae) are common sights on the reefs.

Predators are also present, with whitetip reef sharks (Triaenodon obesus), blacktip reef sharks (Carcharhinus melanopterus), and various rays such as blue-spotted stingrays and guitarfish frequenting the area. You may also spot dolphins (Delphinidae), barracudas (Sphyraena barracuda), and wahoos cruising the deeper sections.

For those interested in macro life, the reefs host a variety of nudibranchs, seahorses (Hippocampus kuda), and frogfish (Antennarius). Look closely for leaf scorpionfish, pipefish, and various species of shrimp and crabs among the corals.

Between August and October, the area becomes a significant location for Humpback whales. This seasonal presence adds a spectacular dimension to the local marine life.

The area around Nosy Be offers a variety of environments, from the calm, protected waters near the mangroves to the more open conditions of the Mozambique Channel. Seasonal patterns influence the presence of large pelagics, particularly during the humpback whale season from August to October.
