Joy Dive Dreamland

Located in the Baa Atoll, Joy Dive Maldives operates primarily through the Dreamland Unique Resort, with additional presence at Safari Island in North Ari Atoll. This dual-location setup allows you to experience some of the most renowned marine ecosystems in the archipelago.

For those staying at Dreamland Unique, access involves a 25-minute domestic flight followed by a 15-minute speedboat transfer, or a 35-minute seaplane flight. The centre is built on a foundation of long-term local experience, having operated in the Maldives for 30 years under German management.

The centre is an SSI Training Centre, offering a structured and professional environment for both recreational and advanced divers. The management team brings decades of experience to the Maldivian waters, ensuring that dive planning is handled with a high degree of individualisation.

Safety is a primary focus, with mandatory orientation dives for all divers at the start of their stay. The team follows strict local regulations, including mandatory buddy diving, the use of dive computers, and the requirement of an alternative air source. The centre also provides a range of specialised training, from beginner levels to Divemaster, and even specific skills like scooter/DPV and drift diving.

The curriculum covers the entire spectrum of SSI certifications. Beginners can start with Try Scuba or Basic Diver, progressing through Scuba Diver and Open Water Diver. For those looking to build technical proficiency, the centre offers Advanced Adventurer, Nitrox, Deep, and Navigation courses.

Specialised training is also available for divers wanting to refine specific skills, including Stress and Rescue, Night & Limited Visibility, Drift, and Wreck diving. They also offer training for using a scooter/DPV and Fish Identification courses to help you make the most of the local biodiversity.

The centre utilises traditional Dhonis for its boat diving excursions. These vessels are used to reach the various thilas and wrecks that characterise the surrounding atolls, providing a reliable platform for both half-day and full-day trips.

Nitrox is available on-site for divers looking to extend their bottom time. The centre is well-equipped to handle the logistical needs of a multi-day diving holiday, including night dives and specialised training sessions.

For those looking to expand their skills, the centre offers a wide range of SSI courses. This includes the full progression from Try Scuba and Open Water Diver through to Advanced Adventurer and Divemaster, as well as specialised modules like Deep, Navigation, and Peak Performance Buoyancy.

The waters around Baa Atoll are famous for their seasonal pelagics. Between May and November, the plankton-rich environment of Hanifaru Bay brings together Manta ray (Mobula alfredi) and whale sharks (Rhincodon typus) in significant numbers.

Throughout the year, you can encounter a variety of reef species including Green sea turtle, Hawksbill turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata), and various species of fish. Schools of tuna (Thunnus), jack, and fusiliers are common sights around the thilas and reef edges.

On the reef and around the various thilas, look for Napoleon wrasse (Cheilinus undulatus), sweetlips (Plectorhinchus), and Batfish (Platax). Whitetip sharks are also frequently observed patrolling the deeper sections of the reef.

The hard and soft coral structures provide a vibrant backdrop for the local fauna, with many species of fish and invertebrates living amongst the reef formations.

Diving in this region is heavily influenced by the seasonal monsoon shifts. Between May and November, the southwest monsoon brings increased plankton levels, which is the primary driver for the seasonal presence of large pelagics in Hanifaru Bay.

While the centre offers various dive schedules, including early morning and night dives, all excursions are planned with flexibility to adapt to the prevailing weather conditions of the atoll.
