Molar Wave is a small hotel in Himmafushi for divers who would rather spend their money on time in the water than on unnecessary ceremony. You get air conditioning, a balcony or terrace, a kitchenette and access to a garden, with the beach close enough for an easy stroll when your legs have had enough of fins for one day.

Velana International Airport is about 11 miles away in a straight-line listing, with the island reached by ferry or speedboat rather than road. Malé's Republic Square, Sultan Park and the National Museum are around 9 miles away in the surrounding area. The hotel is therefore better suited to island time than to a city break, although the capital remains within reach when your itinerary calls for it.

The Deluxe Double Room is arranged for two people, with two single beds rather than one large double. That matters if you are travelling as a couple and prefer to share a bed; it matters just as much if you are two divers who appreciate not having to negotiate for mattress space after a long day. The room also has a private bathroom, bath and spa bath, plus a balcony or terrace for sitting outside.

Air conditioning is the practical feature you will notice most when you return warm and salty. A fan, mosquito net and soundproofing are also provided, while the view can look towards the garden, city, landmarks or lake depending on the room. The kitchenette and refrigerator give you a place for cold drinks and simple food, with a shared kitchen also available if you need more than a kettle, microwave or toaster.

There is a wardrobe, dressing room, desk, seating area and sofa, along with a flat-screen TV and streaming service. Daily housekeeping and laundry are available. Children of any age are welcome, but cots and extra beds are not available, so the existing sleeping arrangement is worth checking carefully before you book for a family.

The transport runs during daylight hours and depends on weather conditions. There are no ferry services on Fridays. If your flight lands after 13:00, you will need to use a private or public speedboat. The hotel welcomes arriving guests at the airport terminal, but you should still plan the crossing rather than assuming you can improvise it after landing.
