Trek Divers

Based on the island of La Digue, Trek Divers operates as a unique floating dive centre. Rather than a traditional shore-based shop, the heart of their operation is their yacht, which allows them to reach remote locations that day-boats often cannot access.

Their approach focuses on variety and discovery, specifically seeking out preserved sites that are not subject to heavy dive traffic. This ensures that you are often exploring pristine underwater landscapes and canyons in relative solitude.

The centre is a PADI-affiliated operation that has earned the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence every year since 2014. They cater to a wide range of divers, from those looking for their first Discover Scuba Diving experience to professional-level Divemasters.

Beyond the water, the centre offers integrated diving packages that include accommodation in a private villa with a pool on La Digue. This provides a seamless way to organise your stay while focusing on your underwater training or exploration.

Trek Divers provides a comprehensive curriculum of PADI courses. Beginners can start with Discover Scuba Diving, Scuba Diver, or the Open Water Diver certification. For those looking to progress, they offer Advanced Open Water Diver, Deep Diver, and Underwater Navigator courses.

Professional and specialty training is also available, including Divemaster and Master Scuba Diver programmes. They offer a variety of PADI specialties such as Enriched Air (Nitrox) Diver, Drift Diver, Digital Underwater Photographer, Underwater Videographer, and conservation-focused courses like Aware Fish Identification, Aware Coral Reef Conservation, and Aware Shark Conservation. They also provide Emergency First Responder and Rescue Diver training.

The Twin Spirit is an 18-metre yacht, 5.40 metres wide, serving as the centre's primary dive platform. It is powered by twin 450 CV Yanmar Diesel engines, providing reliable transit to more distant offshore sites. The vessel features a sun deck, an upper deck, and is equipped with a silent 18.5 Kva generator.

Onboard, you will find practical facilities including a freshwater shower, toilets, and access to electricity for charging cameras and other dive accessories. For full-day excursions, the crew provides lunch and sodas on board. The yacht is also fully equipped for safety, carrying a 7 m3 medical oxygen station, radio, satellite phone, radar, GPS, and a sonar.

The centre maintains a well-stocked inventory of Mares equipment for hire, including 25 BCDs ranging from XXS to XXL, 15 full regulators, and 25 wetsuits (a mix of 3mm long and short models). They also provide fins (sizes 35 to 46), masks, snorkels, boots, and 120kg of lead for weighting.

For gas supply, the yacht carries 24 aluminium cylinders that are convertible to DIN. The air is supplied by two high-pressure compressors with a capacity of 26 m3 per hour. For safety, a medical oxygen station is always available on board.

The marine life around La Digue is diverse and includes several species of sharks, such as Grey reef shark (Carcharhinus amblyrhynchos), Nurse shark, and whitetip sharks. You may also encounter Eagle ray, marbled rays, and various types of reef sharks.

You can regularly observe large pelagics and reef residents, including Great barracuda (Sphyraena barracuda), giant trevally, and giant moray eels. Sea turtles (Cheloniidae), including the hawksbill turtle, are also part of the local ecosystem.

The reef is home to a variety of smaller inhabitants, from Snapper (Lutjanus) and tuna (Thunnus) to stonefish and various reef fish. These encounters occur across the different sites, providing a rich tapestry of life for both macro and large-animal enthusiasts.

The Seychelles experience seasonal wind shifts that can affect diving. The northwest trade winds blow from October to March (8 to 12 knots), while the southeast trades prevail from May to September (10 to 20 knots). The transition months of April and October are typically the calmest periods with minimal wind.

Visibility can be excellent, reaching up to 30 metres during certain periods of the year.
