Aquanaut Diving School

Aquanaut Diving School has been a fixture of the Cyprus diving scene since 1989. As one of the oldest establishments in the region, it operates as a family business with a focus on traditional diving values and safety.

The centre occupies a unique position, situated directly on the beach at Green Bay in Protaras. This prime location allows for easy access to local reef sites and shallow sandy areas, making it an ideal base for both shore-based explorations and boat trips.

The school is run by an experienced team of multilingual instructors, ensuring that training and guided dives are accessible to a wide range of divers. They follow the NAUI standards, providing a structured pathway from initial certifications through to professional levels.

Safety is managed with a strict diver-to-guide ratio, maintaining a maximum of 4 divers per guide. This ensures close supervision during both technical wreck penetrations and recreational reef dives.

Aquanaut offers a comprehensive curriculum of NAUI courses. For those starting their journey, they provide Junior Open Water and Open Water Diver training, followed by Advanced Open Water Diver and Rescue Diver programmes.

Professional training is also available for those looking to advance their careers, with courses including Divemaster, Assistant Instructor, and Master Scuba Diver. Specialized training such as the Enriched Air Nitrox course is also offered to enhance dive profiles.

The centre operates a single boat with a capacity for 15 divers. It is used to reach deeper sites and offshore wrecks, such as the Zenobia, which lies 1500m from the shore in the Bay of Larnaca. Nitrox is available for those looking to extend their bottom times on these trips.

A full range of high-quality diving kit is available for hire, including regulators, wetsuits, BCDs, and fins. This allows divers to travel light, knowing they can access well-maintained equipment on-site.

For those looking to extend their no-decompression limits, the centre provides Nitrox.

The school also features an on-site café with views over Green Bay, providing a place to relax between dives.

The local reefs are teeming with life, including various species of tropical fish such as damselfish, lionfish, and blue-spotted trumpetfish. Larger pelagics like tuna, jack, and great barracuda are often seen patrolling the deeper sections of the wrecks and walls.

In the shallower seagrass meadows and around the Green Bay peninsula, you will regularly encounter sea turtles. Other common residents include groupers, triggerfish, sea bream, and carangues.

For those interested in macro life, the area supports octopuses and starfish. The rocky outcrops and wrecks also provide habitats for various crustaceans and smaller reef dwellers.

Green Bay is known for having calm waters and a lack of strong currents, making it a reliable spot for beginners and those preferring relaxed dives. The area is accessible year-round, with visibility typically ranging between 20 and 30 metres.

Boat dives to the Zenobia require a 7:30 am departure to reach the site in the Bay of Larnaca. While the local reefs are sheltered, divers should always be aware of local conditions when heading offshore.
