Cyprus Diving Centre

Cyprus Diving Centre is a professional diving base situated in the Protaras region of Cyprus. Managed by Daniel and Tamara, the centre combines Swiss standards of organisation with local Cypriot hospitality, providing a reliable base for both recreational divers and those pursuing professional PADI pathways.

The centre operates from April to November, serving divers across Protaras, Pernera, and Agia Napa with dedicated transfer services. It is particularly well-regarded for its commitment to marine conservation and its specialised focus on wreck diving and turtle protection.

The team is led by Daniel, a PADI Course Director, and Tamara, a PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer. The instructor staff is international and highly qualified, including Ramin, an experienced instructor from Mexico; Ben, a PADI instructor and Tec Diver; and Mi-Sin, an experienced instructor from Lombok, alongside Divemaster Jan.

Instruction is available in both English and German, making it a preferred choice for German-speaking divers visiting the region. The centre maintains a professional environment that prioritises safety and individualised planning, catering to everyone from first-time Discover Scuba Diving participants to professional candidates in the IDC programme.

As a PADI IDC centre, the facility offers a comprehensive range of training from entry-level to professional instructor development. Core courses include Open Water Diver, Advanced Open Water Diver, and Rescue Diver, alongside specialty training such as PADI Deep Diver, Sidemount, and Wreck Diver.

For those looking to advance their career, the centre provides Divemaster training and the full Instructor Development Course (IDC), including OWSI crossover and AI upgrades. They also offer specialised training in DPV (underwater scooters), Equipment Specialist courses, and environmental training through PADI Dive Against Debris and the Mediterranean Sea Turtle Specialty.

The centre provides a full range of diving equipment for hire, ensuring you can arrive with just your personal items. This includes wetsuits, regulators, fins, and masks.

Nitrox is available for all dives, and the centre is equipped to support various levels of diving requirements. After your dives, you can relax in the comfortable Biergarten on-site.

The local waters are rich with diverse Mediterranean life. You will frequently encounter schools of fish, including seabream (Sparidae), saddled seabream (Oblada melanura), and various wrasses such as the Mediterranean rainbow wrasse (Coris julis). Larger pelagics like Greater amberjack and Mediterranean barracuda are also present.

In the seagrass meadows of Sun Garden, look closely for more subtle inhabitants. You can find long-snouted seahorses (Hippocampus kuda), various species of damselfish, and colourful nudibranchs like the blue-spotted nudibranch (Chromodoris willani).

Macro life enthusiasts can find plenty to observe, including octopuses (Octopus vulgaris), cuttlefish (Sepiidae), and various species of squid. The rocky areas and crevices often host lionfish (Pterois volitans), moray eels (Muraenidae), and various scorpionfish.

Sea turtles are a significant feature of the area, particularly between July and October. You may see the Green sea turtle (Chelonia mydas) and the loggerhead turtle (Caretta caretta) during these months.

The diving season runs from April to November, with generally calm conditions and minimal swell. The area is known for its lack of significant waves, making it an ideal location for beginners and those preferring relaxed, controlled environments.

Water visibility is typically excellent, often ranging between 20 and 30 metres. While currents are generally calm or low, divers should be mindful of light currents when exploring the rocky fissures at The Trench.
