Rec2Tech Scuba

Rec2Tech Scuba is an established diving hub located in Protaras, on the southeast coast of Cyprus. Operating year-round, the centre has built a reputation for high standards, evidenced by multiple Travellers' Choice Awards. It serves as a versatile base for divers ranging from those completing their first breaths underwater to advanced technical divers.

The centre is led by a team with over 30 years of combined diving experience. Training is overseen by an SDI/TDI Course Director and an Instructor Trainer, ensuring a high level of professional instruction across all disciplines.

Instruction is provided in English, catering to an international community of divers. Whether you are working towards a Divemaster qualification or pursuing technical specialties, the expertise on-site covers the full spectrum of the diving industry.

Rec2Tech Scuba provides a complete pathway of certification through SDI, TDI, and BSAC. Beginners can start with Discover Scuba or Ocean Diver courses, progressing through Open Water Diver, Advanced Ocean Diver, and Sports Diver levels.

For those looking to professionalise, the centre offers Divemaster, Dive Leader, and Instructor training. The curriculum also includes advanced skills such as Rescue Diver and Master Diver.

Technical training is a core component of the centre's identity. Divers can specialise in Sidemount, Solo diving, Wreck penetration, and Accelerated Decompression Procedures, as well as full technical diving programmes.

The centre operates the Cobra, a 7.5m RHIB powered by a 150hp Honda outboard motor. This dedicated vessel has a capacity for 10 divers and is equipped with Raymarine and portable GPS to navigate the waters around Protaras, Ayia Napa, and Cape Grecko.

From the deck of the Cobra, you can access a variety of sites including deep wrecks and reef systems. The boat is used for all types of excursions, including night dives and technical deployments.

The facility is designed for efficiency and ease of use, featuring a dedicated dive shop for essential kit and a reception area with an on-site café.

Technical divers will find the necessary support for advanced profiles, with rebreather and Trimix capabilities available. The centre places a strong emphasis on maintenance, with regulators and cylinders meticulously serviced and cleaned on an annual basis.

The local waters are home to diverse pelagic life and large schools of fish. You will frequently encounter Tuna (Thunnus), Amberjack (Seriola), and various Jacks (Carangidae) cruising the deeper sections of the wrecks and reefs. Schools of silver-sided fish like Gilt-head bream (Sparus aurata) and various seabream (Sparidae) are common sights.

On the reefs and around the wrecks, you can find resident predators and colourful reef dwellers. Look for Grouper (Epinephelus), Lionfish (Pterois volitans), and Triggerfish (Balistidae) amongst the structure. You may also spot large Moray eel (Muraenidae), Barracuda (Sphyraena barracuda), and various species of Wrasse (Labridae), including the Mediterranean rainbow wrasse (Coris julis).

Macro life and smaller inhabitants provide plenty of interest for observant divers. The seabed and crevices host Octopus (Octopus vulgaris), Cuttlefish (Sepiidae), and various species of Nudibranch (Chromodoris willani). You can also find sea turtles, scorpionfish, and various species of pufferfish navigating the corals and rock formations.

The best time to dive in this region is between April and October. During these months, visibility is typically excellent, often reaching 30 metres or more.

While the area offers diverse topographies from sandy bays to deep canyons, divers should be prepared for various environments, including cave and tunnel systems which may require specific buoyancy skills.
