The setting is straightforward: a traditional hotel in Mylopotas with sea views, an outdoor pool and a beach close enough to reach before your coffee gets cold.

Galaxy Hotel suits you if you want a base that combines a proper beach stay with useful day-to-day facilities. The atmosphere is not built around elaborate resort theatre; it is built around getting outside, eating, swimming and having somewhere comfortable to return to.

You stay in Mylopotas, on the island of Ios, Greece, with direct access to a sandy beach. The room choice is more about how you want to use the hotel than about collecting another category name. For two people, the Double Room with Sea View or the Deluxe Double Room with Balcony and Sea View puts the view and outdoor space at the centre of the stay. If the view matters less than keeping the room practical, the garden-facing rooms offer a quieter-looking alternative on paper, with a balcony still available.

Travelling as a family gives you a more workable layout in the Family Two-Bedroom Apartment, with four single beds and separate sleeping areas. The Deluxe Double Room for two adults and one child is the more compact option for a smaller family group. Couples may prefer the sea-view balcony room; divers carrying several bags may value the family apartment’s extra separation more than another scenic adjective.

Air conditioning matters when the island has done its best to cook you, while the refrigerator is useful for keeping drinking water cold between the beach, the pool and the next outing. Rooms have private bathrooms with a bath or shower, towels, toiletries and a hairdryer, along with wardrobes, clothes racks and flat-screen televisions. Daily housekeeping keeps the practical side moving, and non-smoking rooms are available.

Poseidon Restaurant serves Mediterranean food on a terrace, with breakfast, lunch and dinner covered. Fresh seafood is the speciality, which is a sensible direction for a restaurant by the Aegean rather than another menu built entirely around chips. The dress code is casual, so you can arrive from the pool without staging a wardrobe change.

Breakfast is served from 07:00, with a buffet and continental choices. That early start is useful when your day begins with a boat rather than a lie-in. Half-board is available, and a packed meal can be arranged for days when your timetable does not line up neatly with the dining room.

There is one named bar: Ocean Bar, a beach bar serving signature cocktails. A pool bar and snack bar are also available, with continuous snacking listed for the hotel. Room service runs on limited hours from 11:00 to 22:00, and vegetarian and gluten-free options are available. Kids’ meals are also offered.

The main outdoor pool gives you a second place to spend the afternoon when the beach has had enough of you. The beach itself adds the more obvious option: golden sand, clear water, showers and a bar.

Galaxy Spa offers massage, facials, a hammam and a sauna. The 150-square-metre spa is the place to aim for when your shoulders have spent the day carrying more kit than dignity. A gym and yoga studio are also available, with yoga classes for a gentler way to move without pretending that another intensive workout is essential.

When you want to leave the sunbed, you can take part in kayaking, paddleboarding, snorkelling, jet-skiing, fishing or boat excursions. Bicycle hire and hiking are available on land, while cultural excursions include a Chora town tour and a trip to Manganari Beach. Live music and themed evenings add something after dinner, and temporary art galleries, board games and a shared television lounge cover the slower gaps.

Check-in runs from 14:00 to 23:00, and check-out from 08:00 to 12:00. Luggage storage is available, which is handy if your ferry, flight or last swim refuses to respect hotel timings.
