Diveshack

Located in Sliema, Diveshack Malta has been a fixture of the local diving community since 1992. Their position on the seafront provides easy access to the island's most iconic dive sites, making it a practical base for both local divers and those visiting the archipelago.

As an SSI Diamond Instructor Training Centre, they hold the highest level of accreditation awarded by the organisation. This status reflects their long-standing expertise in managing everything from recreational dives to complex technical expeditions across Malta, Gozo, and Comino.

The centre operates with a focus on personalised instruction, ensuring that no diver is ever part of a large, rushed group. They maintain a strict ratio of a maximum of five divers per guide, allowing for closer supervision and a more tailored experience on the boat or at the shore entry.

Safety is integrated into their core operations as a registered Malta Tourism Authority operator and a DAN Partner Dive Centre. They carry emergency oxygen and first aid equipment on-site and on every boat to ensure professional standards are met during every excursion.

The training programme is extensive, catering to every stage of a diver's progression. Beginners can start with Try Scuba or the Basic Diver course, moving through to Open Water Diver and Advanced Open Water Diver certifications.

For those looking to specialise, the centre offers a wide array of SSI specialties, including Deep Diver, Wreck Diver, Night Diver, Navigation Diver, and Perfect Buoyancy. They also provide training for Cavern and Cenote Diving and Recreational Sidemount.

Technical divers will find a robust XR curriculum, covering everything from XR Nitrox and XR Extended Range to highly advanced Hypoxic Trimix combinations, including Trimix 80 and Trimix 100. The centre also provides professional pathways, training future Divemasters, Assistant Instructors, and Open Water Instructors.

For technical divers, the centre is equipped to handle advanced requirements, offering Nitrox and Trimix support. Safety equipment, including emergency oxygen and first aid kits, is standard for all diving activities.

The Mediterranean waters around Malta are home to a diverse range of pelagics and reef inhabitants. You can regularly encounter Dusky grouper, Mediterranean moray, and various species of wrasse, alongside common octopus and cuttlefish.

During the summer months, keep a lookout for the Common Eagle Ray. Other frequent sightings include John Dory, ornate wrasse, and Greater amberjack patrolling the deeper waters.

The seabed and rocky structures provide a home for many smaller creatures, such as the common octopus, which is a highlight for those interested in macro life. You may also spot conger eels tucked into crevices along the walls and wrecks.

The best time to dive in this region is from May to October. During these months, visibility is typically excellent, ranging between 20 and 30 metres.

Water temperatures vary seasonally, providing different experiences for those choosing between a thin wetsuit or a thicker suit depending on the month.
