You are in Maharepa, on Moorea, French Polynesia, at PK 4.5 on the island's lagoon side. The property sits directly on the waterfront, with a 32-metre private beach frontage and direct access to a protected lagoon. The garden runs back towards the mountain side, while the sea opens out in front of you.

Maharepa's shops and restaurants are close enough to make dinner away from the property straightforward. Le Mahogany is about 0.2 miles away, Manuia Grill about 0.5 miles, and Carameline about 0.7 miles. Moorea Green Pearl Golf Course is within 2 miles, while Temae Beach is about 3.7 miles by road.

Moorea Airport is roughly 2 miles away, with the ferry terminal also only a few minutes from the guesthouse. From the ferry terminal or the airport, look for the U-Express supermarket; Poerani is about 650 feet beyond it on the sea side, marked by a sign and a bell at the entrance.

The accommodation is designed more like a collection of private island homes than a block of identical rooms. For two, the Junior Suite with Garden View keeps things compact while giving you a tropical setting. Couples who want to wake up facing the lagoon should look at the sea-view suites, where the view does the heavy lifting before the first coffee.

Families and groups have more useful choices. The larger suites sleep up to eight, while the two-bedroom option gives four guests two bathrooms rather than the usual morning queue. The Deluxe Suite with Sea View is the clear choice when space matters, with two bedrooms, a mezzanine, a large lounge facing the lagoon and a fully equipped kitchen.

Most accommodation has a kitchen, with a refrigerator, stovetop, microwave, toaster, coffee machine, kettle and kitchenware. That matters when you return hungry, want cold water immediately, or prefer to assemble something simple rather than go out again. Air conditioning, a fan, mosquito netting and private bathrooms cover the practical side of a hot tropical night, while seating areas, wardrobes and covered terraces make the rooms usable beyond sleeping.

This is not a hotel built around several restaurants and a bar. The food offer is smaller and more personal: continental breakfast, breakfast baskets and dinners prepared with fresh local produce. Breakfast can also be brought to your room, which is a sensible arrangement when an early start has left you more interested in coffee than conversation.

Breakfast is included for suite stays of three nights or more booked through the property's website. Dinners are available on request, so you can eat at the guesthouse on selected evenings and use Maharepa's nearby restaurants on the others. That gives you flexibility without pretending there is a full restaurant service running all day.

There is no continuous snack service to rely on, and no bar to list. The kitchen facilities in most accommodation therefore become part of the evening routine: keep provisions cold, make a drink, and sit at the dining table or outside rather than organising your night around hotel opening hours.

The 32-metre private waterfront is the main piece of leisure equipment, although it is not really equipment at all. You can also arrange hiking, cycling, golf, fishing, horse riding and cultural activities away from the property. The guesthouse can help organise lagoon tours in Polynesian canoes, mountain outings, 4x4 or horse-riding trips, and whale and dolphin observation.

There are more distinctive options too: traditional Polynesian dance performances, harvesting and tasting coconuts and bananas from the garden, or learning how to make traditional Poara for the hair. This is the sort of place where an afternoon can disappear without needing a timetable. If you are travelling with children, family accommodation and children's meals are available, with children over five welcome.

An airport shuttle can be arranged from Moorea Airport, and transfers can also be organised from the island's ferry terminal. Private check-in and check-out, luggage storage, car hire and laundry are available. WiFi is free throughout the property, and private parking is available on site without reservation.

Check-in runs from 15:00 to 17:00, so you need to provide your expected arrival time. Check-out is from 08:00 to 11:00. Guests under 18 can check in only with a parent or official guardian, and the minimum age for check-in is 18. Children over five are welcome, but cots and extra beds are not available.

The property is entirely non-smoking, including the garden and waterfront, and pets are not allowed. Cash is not accepted. In this tropical setting, mosquito repellent is worth packing, and an electrical adaptor may be useful depending on your equipment.

The property's environmental approach is modest and practical rather than dressed up as a certification. Air conditioning is used reasonably: doors and windows are kept closed while it is running, and the units are switched off when rooms are empty.
