Set on 380,000 square metres of beachfront grounds, this is a large, lively all-inclusive resort built for days that can move from sea to pool, from buffet to bar, without requiring much logistical brilliance. Pickalbatros Sea World Marsa Alam Resort suits divers travelling with family or a non-diving partner who likes having plenty to do between outings.

The resort's guest-facing information is available in English and Arabic, so English-speaking guests can navigate the essentials before arrival. The atmosphere is active rather than discreet: water parks, evening entertainment, family facilities and several bars are part of the daily rhythm.

There is also room to disappear for a while. Gardens, a private beach, sun terraces and a spa give you somewhere to go when the day's main achievement has been getting out of a wetsuit without assistance.

The resort is in Quseir, Egypt, directly on the Red Sea coast. You have direct access to a 900-metre golden sandy beach, with a jetty leading out towards the water. This is not a hotel near the beach; the beach is part of the property.

Quseir Old Port is 11 miles away, giving you a connection with the town without putting you in its middle. The surroundings are otherwise dominated by the resort's own beachfront grounds, which stretch across a substantial site rather than folding neatly into an urban street plan.

An airport shuttle is available for transfers to and from Marsa Alam International Airport. Private parking is also available on site, and the hotel sits far enough from town that an organised transfer or car is the sensible way to arrive.

The room choice is mainly about the view, the distance to the beach and how much space your party needs. Couples can keep things simple with a sea-view room, a beachfront room or a junior suite, while families have larger rooms designed for up to four guests. The family categories make more sense when you want everyone under one roof rather than spread across adjacent rooms and hoping the corridor behaves.

Balconies, air conditioning, soundproofing and a refrigerator cover the practical side of a hot-water, salty-skin day. The refrigerator is useful for keeping drinks cool when you return tired and sun-warmed; the air conditioning gives you a proper reset before dinner. Rooms also have private bathrooms, towels, slippers, bathrobes, a hairdryer and free toiletries.

Sea-view and beachfront categories put the Red Sea into the evening rather than leaving it as a distant idea. Pool-view rooms suit guests who prefer to keep an eye on the main activity, while the larger family rooms provide more breathing room for luggage, clothing and the general debris created by a week near the water. Soprano focuses on Egyptian dinner, while Zum Kaiser offers German dinner from 18:30 to 21:30.

The Food Court runs from 12:30 to 17:00 for casual snacks, and the Beach Club serves light bites and drinks by the shore. That is the useful distinction for a diver: you can eat something informal without turning every post-dive hunger attack into a formal meal. Breakfast choices include continental, Italian, full English/Irish, vegetarian, vegan, halal, gluten-free, Asian and American options, served buffet-style.

Seven bars give the resort several places to stop rather than one queue wearing different furniture. Red Sky Bar focuses on classic cocktails, wines and mixed drinks from 18:00 to midnight. The Lobby Bar runs around the clock, with a small service charge after midnight, while the Aqua Park Bar, White Bar, Columbus Bar and Olympus Bar serve daytime drinks. Sports Café stays open until midnight and adds televised sport to the menu.

There are 26 pools across the resort, including a Kids Aqua Park and an Adults Aqua Park. The latter gives adults their own water-park space, while the beach offers sun loungers, umbrellas and a long stretch of sand when chlorinated water has had its turn. The sea is also available for swimming and snorkelling, with the jetty providing access towards the Red Sea.

For a quieter recovery session, the spa offers treatments, a relaxation lounge, steam room, sauna, hammam, hot tub and massage options including back, neck, foot, head, hand, full-body and couples massages. A fitness centre and Beach Gym provide a way to move without pretending that every holiday hour needs a training plan.

When you want activity without getting wet, there is mini golf, a VR 360 Experience, a paddle court, tennis, table tennis, billiards, darts and a games room. Evening entertainment, live music, film nights and televised sport keep the resort moving after dark. Families also have the Alba Kids Club, with daytime and evening activities including painting, baking and exploring the hotel gardens.

Check-in starts at 14:00 and check-out is by 12:00. There is no age requirement for check-in, and children of all ages are welcome. Cots for children aged two and under can be requested, subject to the selected accommodation, while extra beds are not available.

The front desk is open 24 hours and the resort offers private and express check-in and check-out, luggage storage, a tour desk, currency exchange, an on-site cash machine and concierge service. WiFi is free throughout the property, and a minimarket, beauty salon, room service and laundry add a few useful conveniences when you do not fancy leaving the grounds.
