Hawaiian Diving Adventures

Located at Slip A-03 on Ala Moana Blvd, Hawaiian Diving Adventures has been a fixture of the Honolulu diving community for over ten years. What began as a small operation with a single boat has grown into the only SSI Instructor Training Center in Hawaii.

The centre operates daily charters that take you directly to the diverse underwater landscapes of Oahu. From the shallow, sun-drenched coral gardens near the coast to the deeper, more technical wreck sites further offshore, there is a profile for every type of diver.

As an SSI Instructor Training Center, the team is geared towards both recreational progression and professional development. They manage everything from entry-level certifications to advanced instructor training programmes.

The centre fosters a strong local community through a dedicated dive club, offering social events and benefits for regular members. Their approach focuses on high-standard education and safety across all their daily excursions.

The course catalogue is extensive, covering the full spectrum of SSI certifications. Beginners can start with the Open Water Diver course, while those looking to deepen their experience can progress through Advanced Open Water Diver, Deep Diving, and Enriched Air Nitrox.

For professional divers, the centre offers Divemaster, Assistant Instructor, and the full Instructor Training Course. They also provide a variety of specialty training, including Wreck Diving, Underwater Navigation, Search and Recovery, and Marine Ecology studies, as well as practical skills like Perfect Buoyancy and Diver Stress and Rescue.

The centre provides full equipment hire for various levels, including Discover Scuba Diving, refresher courses, and Open Water or Advanced Open Water divers. For those opting for full kit hire, a selection of essential items is available, though note that for certain Open Water groups, masks, snorkels, and fins may need to be provided separately.

On-site, the centre offers cylinder services and a retail shop. Nitrox is available for divers looking to extend their bottom times on reef or wreck excursions.

The reef ecosystems are teeming with life, including various species of reef fish, angelfish (Pomacanthidae), surgeonfish (Acanthuridae), and colourful butterflyfish (Chaetodon). You will often encounter green sea turtles (Chelonia mydas) and hawksbill turtles (Eretmochelys imbricata) navigating the hard corals and soft corals.

On the deeper wreck sites, the environment shifts to accommodate larger residents. Divers frequently see reef sharks (Carcharhinus), whitetip reef sharks (Triaenodon obesus), and large rays, alongside schools of snappers and great barracuda (Sphyraena barracuda).

For those with an eye for detail, the macro life is significant. The crevices and structures host octopus (Octopus vulgaris), various nudibranch (Chromodoris willani), shrimp (Caridea), and leaf scorpionfish. You may also spot moray eels (Muraenidae) and other invertebrates tucked away in the reef architecture.
