Sail Rock Divers

Sail Rock Divers is situated in Chaloklum on the northern coast of Koh Phangan. Since establishing themselves in 2007, they have become a central hub for both recreational divers and those pursuing a professional career in the industry.

The centre operates as a PADI 5-Star Career Development Center, a distinction that reflects their focus on high-level training. They offer a complete diving ecosystem, from on-site accommodation in private bungalows and dormitories to dedicated training facilities and a social bar for post-dive debriefs.

The team is built around professional development, featuring a resident PADI Course Director and experienced Staff Instructors. This structure is designed to support divers through every stage of their progression, particularly those undertaking the PADI Divemaster or Instructor Development Courses (IDC).

Instruction is delivered in small groups, with a maximum of 4 divers per guide. This ensures a high level of supervision and personalized attention, whether you are completing a PADI Discover Scuba Diving experience or working through the more technical stages of professional training.

The centre provides a comprehensive range of PADI courses, starting with the PADI Bubblemaker and Seal Team programmes for younger divers, followed by the Discover Scuba Diving and Open Water Diver certifications.

For more experienced divers, the curriculum extends to Advanced Open Water Diver, Deep Diver Specialty, Wreck Diver Specialty, and Sidemount Diver Specialty. They also offer specialised training such as the PADI Search & Recovery Diver and the PADI Self Reliant Diver courses.

As a Career Development Center, the professional pathway is a core focus. They host the full suite of professional training, including PADI Divemaster, the Instructor Development Course (IDC), and Master Scuba Diver Trainer (MSDT) preparation.

The centre operates a private dive boat that carries divers to the most significant sites in the Gulf of Thailand. The vessel facilitates daily trips to Sail Rock, Koh Tao, and the Ang Thong National Marine Park.

On board, you will find breakfast, lunch, and drinks provided during the trips. The boat is equipped to handle various dive profiles, including night dives, and offers Nitrox for divers who require it.

On-shore facilities include air-conditioned classrooms for theory work and a dedicated dive training pool for skills practice. For those needing to rent kit, a full range of equipment is available for hire.

Nitrox is available for use, with an additional charge per cylinder. For those looking to document their dives, GoPro cameras can be rented on a daily basis, and dive computers are also available for hire.

The waters around Sail Rock and Koh Tao are home to large pelagics, including tuna, jacks, trevally, and chevron barracuda. You may also encounter whale sharks, which are known to visit these waters, alongside schools of mackerel and various reef sharks (Carcharhinus).

On the reef, look for colourful displays from angelfish (Pomacanthidae), butterflyfish (Chaetodon), and parrotfish (Calotomus). You will also find grouper (Epinephelus), lionfish, and various species of triggerfish, as well as snapper and queenfish.

For macro enthusiasts, the sites offer plenty of smaller life, including nudibranch (Chromodoris willani), shrimp (Caridea), and various crabs (Brachyura). Keep an eye out for sea anemone fish, porcupinefish, and different types of reef fish.

In the crevices and under ledges, you can find moray eels (Muraenidae), large barracuda (Sphyraena barracuda), and various species of turtles (Cheloniidae). The seabed also hosts sea cucumbers, sea urchins, and banded sea crabs.

The dive sites in this region vary in topography, from the steep walls and pinnacles of Sail Rock to the shallow, sloping reefs and caves within the Ang Thong National Marine Park. Divers should be prepared for various environments, including swim-throughs and potential currents near the larger pinnacles.
