JW Marriott Phuket Resort and Spa
On Phuket's northwest coast, the Andaman Sea is the view, the beach is at the gate, and the grounds stretch far enough that your flip-flops may get more exercise than you do.

The invitation
You are looking at a large beachfront resort in Mai Khao Beach, set among 11 hectares of tropical gardens. JW Marriott Phuket is built for the sort of stay where you can spend the morning by the sea, move to a pool in the afternoon and still have several restaurants to choose from when hunger catches up with you. English is spoken by the hotel team, alongside Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai and Russian, so you will be understood from the start.
The mood is polished rather than homespun, with direct beach access, three outdoor pools and a full range of places to eat, drink and switch off. Couples can keep things quiet at the adults-only North Pool or settle into the beach setting; families have a Kids' Club, a children's pool and family rooms. It is a resort for staying put, not a simple base with a bed and a kettle.
The point on the map
The address is in Mai Khao Beach, on Phuket's northwest coast, directly beside a white-sand beach. Sun loungers and parasols are available, so you can move from room to shoreline without organising a small expedition. Sai Kaew Beach is around 200 metres away, while Nai Yang Beach is roughly 6 miles from the resort.
Phuket International Airport is about 9 miles away, with a journey of around 15 minutes by road. Sarasin Bridge is roughly 2 miles away, and Sirinat National Park is about 5 miles from the property. You are in a coastal resort area rather than in the middle of Phuket's town life; Phuket Town and Patong Beach are reached by shuttle service.

The rooms, and the nights
The standard room categories are spacious enough for three, with garden, pool or partial sea views and a private balcony or terrace. That gives you room to spread out after a long day, while soundproofing helps keep the night's sleep separate from the resort's daytime activity. Air conditioning, a minibar, tea and coffee facilities, a flat-screen TV and a kettle cover the practical side of the evening; 24-hour room service covers the moment when changing for dinner feels like unnecessary bureaucracy.
For two people, a king room with a garden or partial sea view is the straightforward choice. If you prefer to step straight into the water, the Grande Premium Pool Access category has pool access from the room. Families can choose a room with a king bed or two double beds plus a children's bed, though the listed occupancy remains three, so check the exact arrangement if you are travelling with a larger group.
The oceanfront suites and villas change the scale completely. The one-bedroom suites bring a whirlpool and oceanfront setting, while the two-bedroom Royal Villa is designed for up to six people and has two bathrooms. Premium Thai silk fabrics by Jim Thompson add a local detail to the interiors, but the useful part for you is simpler: a balcony or terrace, cooling air conditioning and somewhere to sit while your kit bag is ignored for a few hours.

The taste of the place
You have six restaurants to work through, which is useful when the idea of leaving the resort after diving has lost its appeal. JW Café covers breakfast, lunch and dinner with international food, and the breakfast format includes Asian, American and buffet choices. Siam Deli also runs across the day, with gourmet sandwiches, fresh pastries and other prepared treats for a lighter meal or a less formal return from the beach.
The main restaurants cover Thai food at Ginja Taste, Italian cooking at Cucina and Japanese teppanyaki at Benihana. Andaman Grill handles lunch and dinner outdoors by the ocean, with international food, premium cuts of meat and sustainably sourced seafood. It is the place for a proper evening meal rather than a quick plate between pool and bed.
There are four named bars. M Beach Club and Rim Nam Pool Bar focus on cocktails, with Rim Nam also offering light bites; Andaman Grill Bar adds cocktails, wines and premium spirits; Sala Sawasdee Lobby Bar keeps the drinks going indoors. Room service runs around the clock, and special diet menus are available on request.

Things to do, or not do
Three outdoor pools give you different versions of the non-beach day. The Main Pool includes a children's pool, the South Pool has a swim-up bar, and the adults-only North Pool is the quieter place to read, float or simply stop making decisions. Sun loungers, beach chairs, umbrellas, a sun terrace and gardens fill in the gaps between swims.
THE SPA offers massages, facials, hammam, sauna, jacuzzi, mud baths and body wraps. Couples can book a couples massage, while the spa also covers more targeted options such as foot, head, neck, back and full-body massage. After several days in salt water, a steam room and a treatment menu are more persuasive than another organised outing.
If sitting still becomes medically impossible, there is a 24-hour fitness centre, fitness classes, yoga classes, a tennis court, bicycles, cycling, table tennis, badminton equipment and a games room. A cooking class, bike tours, walking tours, local-culture sessions, movie nights and live music add structure for couples travelling together. Families have a supervised Kids' Club for children aged 4 to 12, indoor and outdoor play areas, a playground and evening entertainment.
What to know before you book
Phuket International Airport is around 9 miles away. An airport shuttle and limousine transfer service are available through the hotel, either privately or as arranged by the property; contact the hotel to organise the service. A shuttle also connects the resort with Phuket Town and Patong Beach. Free private parking is available on site, with an electric vehicle charging station, and car hire can be arranged.
The front desk operates 24 hours, with concierge service, a tour desk, currency exchange, luggage storage, lockers and private or express check-in and check-out. Check-out is by noon. The published arrival information gives different check-in times, so confirm the applicable time for your booking before travelling; photo identification and the booking card are required at arrival, and you should tell the hotel when you expect to reach it.
Wi-Fi is free throughout the property. Daily housekeeping, laundry, dry cleaning, a business centre, a safety deposit box and an on-site infirmary cover the less glamorous parts of travel. Children of all ages are welcome, with cots and extra beds available for some room categories; children aged 3 and above are charged as adults. The minimum check-in age is 18 in one policy and 20 in another, so this is worth confirming if it matters to your party.

Protecting what you came to see
The resort is certified under the ASEAN Green Hotel Standard. Its setting on the Andaman coast makes that certification relevant to the place rather than a decorative line in the brochure: you are staying beside the beach and the sea, in a resort whose grounds cover 11 hectares.

Your last day stays dry: no diving in the 18-24 hours before a flight the perfect window to see the destination from another angle.
