SAii Laguna Phuket is a beachfront resort in Bang Tao Beach, built for days that can take several directions without requiring a timetable. You can start with the sea, retreat to the shade, use the fitness centre, book a spa treatment or simply find a chair and let the island get on with itself. The resort has five-star facilities, but the useful part is less about ceremony and more about having plenty to do between meals and sleep.

The tone is relaxed and informal, with space for couples, families and divers who would rather not spend their non-diving hours in a lobby. Children of any age are welcome, with a kids’ club, children’s pool, play areas, a games room and babysitting available. You are in Bang Tao Beach, Thailand, directly on the seafront. The beach comes with loungers and parasols, so the route from room to sand is refreshingly uncomplicated. Pineapple Beach is about 3.7 miles away by road, while Surin Beach and Pansea Beach are each around 3.7 to 3.9 miles away by road. Phuket has supplied enough beaches for several holidays; you will not need to treat this one as a day trip.

The resort sits within the Laguna area, with bars and cafés nearby and restaurants within a short drive. Reggaebar Bangtao Beach Phuket is about 600 feet away, while Bangtao Beach Bar & Cafe is around 1.9 miles away by road. For greenery and outings beyond the shoreline, Khao Phra National Park is about 4.9 miles away by road, and Khao Phra Thaeo National Park is around 6 miles away.

The room choice is mainly about how much view and breathing space you want. Lagoon View rooms keep the water close to the eye, while Ocean View, Ocean Front and Beach Access options make more sense if the sea is part of the holiday rather than merely a pleasant background. The Beach Access category is the practical pick when you want the shortest possible journey to the sand. No treasure hunt through the grounds; just a door, a path and the beach.

For couples who like a proper division between sleeping and sitting, the one-bedroom suites offer 104 square metres and a king bed, with lagoon, ocean or ocean-front views depending on the category. The connecting Club Lagoon arrangement accommodates up to six people, using two single beds and one extra-large double bed, which gives families or groups room to organise themselves without conducting every conversation on the bed.

Every room has air conditioning, a private balcony or terrace in the room descriptions, a refrigerator, coffee machine and kettle. There is also a minibar, flat-screen satellite television, a safety deposit box, bathrobe, slippers and hairdryer. Daily housekeeping keeps the practical side moving, while the very comfortable beds should help with the traditional diver’s evening plan: shower, food, and horizontal.

Four restaurants give you room to vary the evening without leaving the resort, and there is a bar for the less formal part of the operation. Room service is available, as is breakfast in your room, which is handy when an early start has left you more interested in coffee than conversation. The outdoor pool area is set up for the classic post-dive recovery: sun loungers, beach chairs, umbrellas, a sun terrace and garden space. The beach is directly on the property, while on-site water sports include canoeing and windsurfing. There is also a water slide, because not every member of a travelling party will accept that lying still is a legitimate holiday activity.

For a more deliberate way to loosen up, SAii Spa offers massage and facial treatments. The wellness facilities include couples massage, full-body massage, foot, back, neck, head and hand massage, along with a foot bath. Yoga classes, fitness facilities and a personal trainer are available if your legs still feel like they belong to you after several dives.

You can play tennis, table tennis or billiards, use the tennis equipment, try archery or hire a bicycle. A golf course is within 3 miles, and bicycle tours, cooking classes and local-culture tours provide reasons to leave the lounger. The children’s facilities include indoor and outdoor play areas, board games, a games room and a children’s pool, so a mixed-age group can divide the afternoon without anyone having to pretend that everyone enjoys the same pace.

Phuket International Airport is about 10 miles away by road, with a driving time of around 21 minutes. The resort offers an airport shuttle and a shuttle service; arrange the transfer with the hotel, either privately or as a shared service. Patong Beach is around a 20-minute drive away, and Phuket Town around 25 minutes. Private parking is available on site, with reservation required, and valet parking is also available.

Check-in starts at 14:00 and check-out is by 12:00. A photo ID and the payment card used for the booking are required at check-in. The front desk operates around the clock and can help with luggage storage, currency exchange, concierge requests and excursions through the tour desk.
