Sugar Palm Residence is a practical Phuket Town base for divers who prefer a proper town around them rather than a resort bubble. You can sleep in an air-conditioned room, keep drinks cold in the refrigerator and step out onto a balcony when the day has finally stopped demanding things from you. There is a year-round outdoor pool as well, because sometimes the most ambitious plan after diving is getting wet without carrying a cylinder.

The tone is straightforward and useful: private bathrooms, tea and coffee facilities, daily housekeeping, a fitness centre and a minimarket on site. You also have a terrace, free private parking and WiFi in the public areas. It suits a couple wanting room to spread out and a base with shops, cafés and town sights within reach.

You are in Phuket Town, Thailand, rather than on the coast itself. The nearest listed beaches are Siray Bay Beach, around 5 km away, Koh Sirey Beach at about 7 km and Chalong Beach at roughly 7 km. By car, the beaches are around a ten-minute journey in the listed local timings, so a beach day involves transport rather than a barefoot stroll from your room.

The town setting gives you more to do on land. Chinpracha House is around 1 km away, Thai Hua Museum about 1 km, and Phuket Provincial Commemoration Public Park around 250 m. Rang Hill is roughly 1.5 km away, while cafés sit close by and restaurants begin at around 300 m. Phuket Bus Terminal is about 3 km away, and Phuket International Airport is around 32 km by road.

The two room categories are both suites, which is useful when you return tired, damp and carrying the usual collection of small diving-related objects that somehow end up everywhere. A seating area and sofa give you somewhere other than the bed to land, while the balcony lets you step outside without going anywhere at all. Views can look towards the city, mountains or pool, depending on the room.

For a couple, the Junior Suite is the simpler choice; the Deluxe Suite gives you more room to work with when you value space around the seating area and luggage. Both categories are designed for two adults, with a private bathroom and shower, towels, slippers, bathrobes, a hairdryer and complimentary toiletries. The practical bits are present too: air conditioning for cooling down, a refrigerator for water and an electric kettle for the first drink of the morning.

The rooms also have wardrobes, wooden or parquet flooring, flat-screen television and satellite channels. Daily housekeeping keeps the basic reset off your list. If you are travelling with children, those older than eight are welcome; the property does not have cots, and extra beds depend on the selected accommodation.

The outdoor swimming pool is the obvious post-dive option when you still want to cool off but cannot face another trip to the beach. Pool and beach towels are available, with sun loungers or beach chairs for the important business of doing very little. The terrace adds another place to sit, and the pool remains available throughout the year.

If your legs have not had enough, the fitness centre gives you somewhere to use them. For a quieter afternoon, Phuket Provincial Commemoration Public Park is around 250 m away, Suan Luang Park about 600 m and Rang Hill roughly 1.5 km. Chinpracha House and Thai Hua Museum are close enough to turn a non-diving day into a town walk, without pretending that every holiday needs a timetable.

Check-in runs from 14:00 to 23:30, with check-out from 07:00 to 12:00. The minimum check-in age is 18, and cash is an accepted payment method. Phuket International Airport is about 32 km away by road; arrange your airport transport around the arrival window rather than assuming a late-night arrival will take care of itself.

Free private parking is available on site and does not require a reservation, which is useful if you are exploring the island by car. A lift serves the property, a minimarket is on site and daily housekeeping is included. WiFi is available in the public areas. Pets are not allowed.
