This suits divers who want a practical base in Chalong, with food on site and places to eat close by, rather than an all-singing entertainment complex.

You are in Chalong, around 0.6 miles from the town centre. The area puts you close to Wat Chalong, Big Buddha and Robinson Department Store, so there is something to do when you want to leave the pool and stretch your legs.

The hotel is not presented as a beachfront property. A beach shuttle is available, and the beach also has sun loungers and parasols for a proper day away from the dive schedule. For getting around independently, parking is available on site, which is handy when your plans involve more than the route from room to pool.

For two people travelling together, the double rooms keep things simple: a private bathroom, air conditioning, a fridge, a safe, a television, a desk and a wardrobe. The fridge is the useful bit after a warm day in the water; the air conditioning is the useful bit when you are ready to sleep rather than discuss the day's logbook until midnight.

Choose the pool-view option if you prefer to look out over the water from your room. The pool-access option is the one to consider if stepping straight towards a swim matters more than having the view. Both are designed for two people sharing a double bed, so they suit a couple or a pair happy to share rather than a larger group.

Tea and coffee facilities, bottled water, towels, toiletries and a hairdryer cover the small practical details. Express check-in and check-out are available, while the building has no lift, worth bearing in mind if stairs are inconvenient after a long day carrying bags.

Two dining venues keep meals uncomplicated. The restaurant serves Thai and international dishes in an air-conditioned indoor setting, with breakfast, lunch and dinner listed. Breakfast comes as a buffet or à la carte, and the breakfast service runs from 07.30 to 10.30.

Dome Cafe takes the more relaxed route, with a terrace, hot and cold drinks and snacks through the day. It serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, opening from 08.00 to 20.00. That makes it the natural stop for coffee, a cold drink or something light when a full restaurant meal feels like excessive effort.

The available arrangements are room only or breakfast included. Restaurants, bars and other places to eat are also close to the hotel, so you can vary the evening without turning dinner into another expedition.

There are two outdoor pools. The Infinity Swimming Pool is open from 08.00 to 22.00, while the second outdoor pool sits among greenery with sun loungers and pool towels. One gives you a later swim; the other is set up for the slower version of the day, when the most ambitious plan is finding a lounger and staying there.

The spa covers the familiar post-dive recovery menu: massages, facials, hammam, sauna, jacuzzi, mud baths and body wraps. Treatments are available alongside the pools, so you can build an afternoon around heat, water and very little movement. Sensible, really.

A gym and fitness centre is open from 08.00 to 22.00 for anyone who still wants to exercise on holiday. The garden, terrace and outdoor furniture provide quieter alternatives for reading, cooling down or waiting for the appetite to return.

Check-in runs from 14.00 to 23.00, and check-out is at 12.00. Early check-in and late check-out can be requested, useful if your travel plans do not line up neatly with the hotel clock. Luggage storage is available for the awkward gap between leaving the room and leaving the island.
