Sailing Club Divers

Established in 1999, Sailing Club Divers has been a fixture of the Nha Trang diving community for over two decades. Originally founded as the Octopus Diving Club, the centre has grown into a highly respected PADI 5 Star IDC facility, serving divers of all experience levels seeking the diverse underwater topography of the South China Sea.

The centre is deeply integrated into the local marine environment, participating in active conservation efforts such as the removal of crown-of-thorns starfish and bay clean-ups. This commitment to the ecosystem extends to their daily operations, ensuring that the reefs they explore remain healthy for future generations of divers.

The team is composed of highly qualified PADI instructors and divemasters who lead a wide range of courses and daily excursions. For recreational diving, the centre maintains a low diver-to-guide ratio, with a maximum of three divers per guide on explorations and a maximum of two divers per guide during training courses.

Communication is straightforward for international visitors, as the staff is proficient in English, French, Russian, Korean, Vietnamese, Swedish, Chinese, Slovak, Czech, and Polish. This multilingual approach ensures that technical details and safety briefings are clearly understood by a diverse range of divers.

The centre provides a comprehensive curriculum of PADI courses, catering to everyone from those taking their first breaths underwater to professional candidates. Entry-level options include PADI Scuba Diver and Open Water Diver, while more advanced divers can pursue the Advanced Open Water Diver, Deep Diver, and Underwater Navigation certifications.

Specialty training is also available, covering Peak Performance Buoyancy, Night Diver, and Dive Against Debris. For those looking to move into professional ranks, the centre offers the full pathway from Rescue Diver through to Divemaster and Open Water Scuba Instructor.

The centre operates wooden boats for its daily excursions, providing a traditional feel for trips to the surrounding reefs and islands. These vessels depart at 7:00 AM and are equipped to handle daily diving and snorkeling trips.

On board, you will find facilities including a toilet, fresh water showers, and a dining area where lunch, water, tea, coffee, and fresh fruit are provided. The boats are configured to visit sites such as Madonna Rock, Hon Mot, and Vân Phong Bay.

Sailing Club Divers offers a full range of equipment hire for those not travelling with their own kit. This includes regulators, wetsuits, fins, and masks, as well as torches for night diving sessions.

For those undertaking professional training, such as the PADI Divemaster course, students are required to provide their own mask, fins, snorkel, and diving computer.

The reefs are characterised by a healthy mix of hard corals and soft corals. You will frequently encounter schooling fish such as snapper, butterflyfish (Chaetodon), and parrotfish (Calotomus), alongside larger residents like barracuda (school) and lionfish (Pterois volitans).

Macro enthusiasts can find a wealth of smaller life, including various species of nudibranch (Chromodoris willani), mantis shrimp, and diverse shrimp species. The crevices and caves, particularly at Lobster Cave, are ideal for spotting these smaller creatures.

Larger pelagics and interesting species include the Great barracuda (Sphyraena barracuda) and the occasional bamboo shark. Sea turtles and various species of angelfish (Pomacanthidae) are also part of the local ecosystem.

Currents at the local dive sites generally range from nil to moderate, though some areas may experience stronger flows. The best time to visit the Nha Trang area is between April and October, while Dam Bay is best from February to October.

For those visiting Vân Phong Bay or Hon Bac, the window of April to September offers reliable conditions. Visibility typically ranges between 5 and 15 metres depending on the specific site and seasonal conditions.
