Tchal Ket, Boa Vista: terrasses coralliennes et pélagiques

Tchal Ket is situated on the outer edge of Boa Vista's eastern reef system, presenting a dynamic profile shaped by its exposure to the Atlantic. The dive begins in a shallower area, around 5 to 7 metres, suggesting a top platform or seamount with varied relief. From there, the topography transitions into a series of coral terraces, gradually descending, offering a varied dive experience rather than a uniform wall.

As you move deeper, these terraces become more pronounced, starting around 18 metres and dropping towards 25 metres. Each step down reveals different micro-habitats, interspersed with sandy sections. These sandy areas are particularly notable as they function as cleaning stations, providing a unique opportunity to observe marine life interactions in a natural setting.

The main wall drops further, reaching depths of 30 to 35 metres. This deeper section, combined with the site's exposure, acts as a magnet for larger marine life. The nutrient-rich water flowing over these deeper structures supports a vibrant ecosystem, distinct from the shallower, more sheltered reefs typical of the region.

Among the marine encounters, you can expect to see green turtles navigating the reef and eagle rays gliding through the water column. Cleaner fish are consistently present, especially around the sandy cleaning stations.
