Blue Wave Diving

Blue Wave Diving has been operating in the Nosy Be region since 2018. Founded by experienced instructors Margherita and Amir, alongside veteran diver Paolo, the centre provides access to a variety of underwater environments ranging from shallow reef flats to deeper stacks and islands.

The centre operates across three unique locations to suit different accommodation needs. You can dive from the independent centre in Madirokely, the VOI Amarina Resort on the beach at Amarina, or the private island of Tsarabanjina within the Constance Tsarabanjina resort.

The team is composed of experienced, multilingual instructors capable of conducting dives and courses in English, French, Italian, and Spanish. This ensures clear communication regarding dive plans and safety protocols for a wide range of international divers.

Safety is a primary focus, with the centre providing emergency oxygen, VHF radio, and GPS on all vessels. They maintain a low diver-to-guide ratio, typically limiting groups to between 4 and 6 divers per guide to ensure personalised attention and safety during every immersion.

Blue Wave Diving is a PADI affiliated centre offering a full progression of training. Beginners can start with the Bubble Maker or Scuba Diver courses, moving through to the Open Water Diver and Advanced Open Water Diver certifications.

In addition to standard certification courses, the centre provides guided exploration dives and specialised excursions such as whale watching.

The centre operates three 8-metre fast boats, powered by 200 HP and 250 HP engines. These vessels are equipped with modern safety devices, including VHF radio and GPS, to navigate the waters around Nosy Be.

During your trips, snacks and drinks are provided on board. The boats are used for guided dives, snorkeling excursions, and whale watching trips, with departures scheduled for both morning and afternoon sessions.

A full range of diving equipment is available for hire, including regulators, wetsuits, and fins. The centre also maintains a small shop and provides a maintenance service for divers needing work on their own regulators and kit.

On-site facilities include a compressed air cylinder recharging station. All rental equipment is regularly inspected, controlled, and disinfected to ensure it meets safety standards before use.

The waters around Nosy Be are home to a diverse array of pelagic and reef species. You can regularly encounter dolphins (Delphinidae), mobula rays, and various reef sharks, including whitetip sharks (Triaenodon obesus) and blacktip reef sharks (Carcharhinus melanopterus). Large schools of fish, including fusiliers (Caesio), jacks (Carangidae), and snappers (Lutjanus), move through the water column.

The reef architecture is built from vibrant hard and soft corals (Alcyonacea), sea fans (Gorgoniidae), and various sponges. These structures support a wide range of colourful reef fish such as butterflyfish, surgeonfish (Acanthuridae), triggerfish (Balistidae), and clownfish (Amphiprion).

For those interested in macro life, the sites offer significant opportunities to find nudibranchs (Chromodoris willani), seahorses (Hippocampus kuda), and frogfish (Antennarius). You may also spot leaf fish, pipefish, ghost pipefish (Solenostomidae), and various species of boxfish (Ostraciidae) among the corals.

Seasonality plays a role in local encounters; humpback whales are present from August to September, while whale sharks (Rhincodon typus) can be found between October and December.

Diving operations are organised according to the best available weather and tidal conditions. The centre offers both morning and afternoon dive windows to take advantage of these cycles.

While the area is generally accessible, the presence of plankton is noted to be abundant between October and December.
